Kimball Library News 12/28/10

NEW in January at the click of a button you can have an education on us! Just go to our website and look under the library links for ‘Universal Class.’ Available subjects are: accounting and booking, alternative medicine, arts and photography, business, career training, computers and technology, cooking, crafts and hobbies… And those are just the subjects A-C! Some sample classes are: Interview skills 101, Medical terminology 101, Photography Basics, Microsoft Office 2007, Wedding Plannning 101, Caring for Seniors, Stress Management 101, Writing Basics 101 and much much more. There are over 500 online continuing education courses. You are welcome to enroll in up to 5 classes at a time, and you have up to 6 months to finish each class. You have access to your course 24/7 via the Internet. Attend class and do assignments on your schedule. Each course has a real instructor who you may communicate with using email. All of these courses are free for Kimball Library patrons in good standing.

NEW in January, E-Books have arrived at the Kimball Library! Therefore, all those compatible new e-readers (Nook, iPad, Sony, Kobo) that you folks have received for holiday gifts will have access to e-books through www.kimballlibrary.com. (Please be aware that at this time the Kindle does not offer this service.) Also, ancestry.com is available starting in January. Ancestry is the world’s largest online resource for family history documents and family trees. There is a lot to celebrate at the library in 2011.

Also NEW in January is Kimball’s first ‘Jack Frost Jamboree’! This exciting event will take place on Saturday, January 22nd, from 10:30am-2:30pm. Imagine the library being transformed into a mini golf course! Other events will include a snowball walk, snow shoe demonstrations (for adults & children), winter crafts, an option to participate in hat and mitten donations for Ruth’s House in Haverhill, MA, and refreshments including hot dogs and popcorn. Save the date because this is one big event, and you will not want to miss out.

Please be aware that the library will be closed on Monday, January 17, for Civil Rights Day.
