Kimball Library News 6/12/12

Come and enjoy a summer concert in the courtyard at the Kimball Library. The Taylor River Band is a contemporary bluegrass band with Heather Mike on Fiddle, Dave Dupouy on Banjo, Ben Molin on Bass, and Doug Molin on Guitar. TRB plays at venues throughout the area and we are thankful they are coming here. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the show! Popcorn will be served throughout the performance. This fantastic program is sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library as well as other concerts coming in July and August. Stay ‘tuned’ for more musical happenings.

The children’s and t/ween summer reading programs are off and running. Listed below is summary of what is in store for the older group (OWN THE NIGHT) in regard to how the whole program works. Please remember that you must come into the library for either program for your starting information.

OWN THE NIGHT is open to Atkinson youth entering grade 6 through age 19 (as of Fall 2012). Register starting Thursday, June 14th, and then you must come into the Kimball Library to receive your reading tickets and get your $5 reading bucks coupon. Use it to pay down your library fines. If you only want to use part of your reading bucks, a staff member will initial the coupon and write down the remaining balance.

For each age-appropriate item you read, turn in your ticket to a staff member with your name, phone number, and title of the item you read. There is no required amount of reading and you can include graphic novels, magazines, novels, audio books, ebooks – any literature counts. You may ask for extra tickets if you run out. The last day to enter tickets for the raffle is July 30th.

If you read an item that is MORE than 200 pages, you may enter 2 coupons for that same book.

Remember~ over 200 pages = DOUBLE COUPONS. Participation raffle tickets are for teens that have registered for and attend teen programs. All ‘OWN THE NIGHT’ events on the calendar are eligible for tickets. The more you read and participate, the better your odds of winning prizes.

When each ticket is completed, drop it off at the main desk to be eligible for random prize drawings held weekly. Prizes may include snacks, books, gift cards, Water Country & Canobie passes and more! You need not be present to win. This year’s challenge is ‘Own the Teen Librarian’. If at least 70 teens register and submit 700 tickets as a whole, the Teen Librarian (Kathy Watson) will get owned by teens at the August 2 ‘End the Night’ program. Her entire head of hair will be dyed PINK & PURPLE! Get motivated and encourage your friends to register and read for OWN THE NIGHT.

As the world changes, so does the library. Please note that on Sunday, June 24th, our public catalog will be unavailable as the software is being updated. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Please also note that we are closed on Wednesday, July 4th, as we celebrate Independence Day. Have a safe and pleasant holiday. On the flip side on this closing is a reminder that we are open on Saturdays in the summer from 10am-3pm as well as during the year. The Saturday staff looks forward to seeing you.
