GORILLA
TREKKING: Did
you know there are only approximately 880 mountain gorillas in the world? They inhabit an extinct volcanic region
called the Virunga Range along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC) in East Africa.
This is the same region American, Dian Fossey (Gorillas in the Mist)
lived dedicating her life to research and protection of the mountain gorillas.
Be prepared to join in on a journey of a lifetime by
participating in some armchair travel and trekking with Dan and Diane Heer as
they share their most recent travels to Rwanda and Uganda. You’ll get to see their photos and videos and
hear of their adventures of gorilla trekking this fall (September 2014). Photographs and videos of the gorillas in
their natural habitat will be presented along with some general landscapes of
Rwanda & Uganda.
This free exciting and educational adventure is open
to the public and commences on Tuesday, January 13th, from
6:30-8pm. Light refreshments will be
served. (Stems, bamboo shoots, haha…)
JACK
FROST JAMBOREE: Did you know that this is our 5th annual
Jack Frost Jamboree and each year it just keeps getting better? We have so many games and activities planned! Join us for some snappy winter fun on
Saturday, January 24th, between 10:30 and 2:30pm. Think 'winter
carnival' with a twist.
Try these activities on for size: Our custom miniature golf course in the
stacks, winter crafty projects, games, games, games (and earning tickets for prizes!),
face painting, hot dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate, and possibly other surprises.
Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) will be there with
snow shoes from 11:30-1:30, weather permitting, if we get a visit via Jack
Frost. (No snow, no go.) Dress
accordingly as we do hope to have outdoor fun if we have even a little bit of
the fluffy white stuff.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
FROZEN FUN is included!
This is a free spectacular event sponsored by the
Friends of the Library. Bring the family!
MAH
JONG REMINDERS: We are seeking a few new novices so you can all
learn together. Many of those who play
on Mondays from 1-4:30 were taught by Betty and she’s prepared to bring some
newbies on board. The game is the
American version of Mah Jong and we have roughly 20 people a week who
play. It will be an opportunity to meet
new people and learn a new skill. Don’t
be shy—sign up today.
HOLIDAY
HOURS: We will be open on Wednesday, December 31st
from 10am-3pm, and closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015. We certainly celebrate all of you!
