Kimball Library News 12/29/14

CARRY ONE LESS THING:  We insist you carry your library card with you to ensure efficient and proper checkouts, but many times we hear: “I hate having all those little tags.” “The card is on my other set of keys.” “I didn’t know I was going to stop in and take anything so I don’t have it with me.”  Now we have a new way to avert the crisis.

We have installed new barcode scanners at our circulation desks that will read barcodes scanned into smart phones.  Use your favorite app to store your barcode to your library card and if you’re the kind of person that always has your phone with you if nothing else, you’ll always have your card on you. Checking out will be a breeze.

MAGAZINES ONLINE: Digital magazines will be coming to Kimball Library in January when we start offering a service called Flipster.  This new browseable reading experience will offer you the ability to access popular magazines remotely using your pc, a wide variety of tablets, and phones.  You will be able to download an entire magazine and read it later, cover to cover.  No waiting in line!  Check back for future press releases and more details about this exciting new perk which adds to our already extensive hardcopy magazine selection.

GET YOUR JAM ON: Don’t miss out on our 5th Annual Jack Frost Jamboree!
Custom miniature golf course in the stacks, winter crafty projects, games, games, games (and earning tickets for prizes!), face painting, hot dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate, and possibly other surprises.  FROZEN FUN is included!

Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) will be there with snow shoes from 11:30-1:30, weather permitting, if we get a visit via Jack Frost. Dress accordingly as we do hope to have outdoor fun if we have even a little bit of the fluffy white stuff.  This is a free spectacular event sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Bring the frozen family!

CALLING ALL WIGGLERS: We are continuing to offer ages 3-6 opportunities to move their bodies and learn about letters and phonetic sounds.  Jump start your children into literacy on Thursday, January 15th, at 10:30am.

HOLIDAY HOURS: We will be closed on Monday, January 19th, observing Civil Rights Day/Martin Luther King, Jr.  Please stock up accordingly.
