Kimball Library News 1/29/18

In February we will be hosting the “Practices that Grow the Brain Series’ with Liz Korabek-Emerson on the first 4 Thursdays of this month.  Each week has a separate focus and registration requirement.  Some of the weeks are already booked up so if you are interested jump on the website ASAP or give us a call to see if there is space available for you.  The weekly topics are in order as follows: Mindfulness, Gratitude & Taking in the Good, Loving-kindness, and Compassion.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HANNAH DUSTON: Get ready to learn the truth on Monday, February 26th, at 6:30pm at Kimball Library.  Hannah has been the subject of many writings ranging from heroine to murderess. Now, from a source ‘hidden’ in plain view, comes the clear revelation. Learn what captivity narratives don’t want you to know, scalping 101, and the key to reliable resources.

This presentation is by Atkinson resident, Richard Pyne. Richard started researching the history of Hannah Duston in 1995. He retired from Haverhill High School in 2000 after 32 years of teaching history. He was also a mock trial coach for 12 years at HHS.

Each attendee will receive a copy of Richard’s research and light refreshments will be served.  Registration is required and you may do that in person, over the phone, or on our website.

WINTER STAY-CATION 2018: For those who prefer a relaxed school vacation week at home, we have events for the children from February 26-March 2 to coincide with the Timberlane School District system.  For the next several weeks we will highlight some of the upcoming events.  All events require registration so please plan accordingly.

BUILD A BLESSING BAG: What is a blessing bag you ask? Consider this answer from a 5 year old:
'A Blessing Bag is a thing you give to homeless people so they can live better. We give them out from our car when we see someone with a sign asking for help and it makes them feel better.'

Blessing bags have toiletries, individually wrapped snacks, socks or gloves, and/or things people on the go would need. Please join us as we assemble blessing bags to give out the next time you see someone in need. Even the youngest members of your family can decorate a blessing bag card and kids and adults will enjoy walking the assembly line of items.

Each participant is asked to bring a bag (cloth shopping bag, old purse, or even a gallon sized plastic zip bag!) to fill.

This is a great opportunity to get your whole family involved in spreading some joy and happiness during these winter months. Family games will be provided as well to enjoy after you build your blessing bag. Please feel free to drop in anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 and plan to give yourself at least 15 minutes to put together a bag.

*This event REQUIRES registration by 2/22 so that we can purchase the correct amount of supplies. Registration will close at this date.*  THE event takes place on Thursday, March 1st.

Have fun with your family and go home with a blessing bag to give out.  Materials will be provided, although donations of toiletries are appreciated.

STAY TUNED for more STAY-CATION events next week!

HOLIDAY CLOSING: Please take note that we will be closed on Monday, February 19th, honoring Presidents Day.  Stock up accordingly, and remember that downloadable books from Overdrive, Digital Hoopla, and Tumblebook Library for kids are open on our website 24/7.
