Kimball Library News 4/5/21

April Stay-Cation week is right around the corner and we can’t wait for you to participate in our lineup!

POKEMON SCAVENGER HUNT: Swing by the Library on StayCation Week (April 26-30) and see how many Pokémon you can spot! Snap a picture or write down their names so you can tell the librarians how many you found. Whoever finds the most Pokémon by the end of the week will be the Pokémon Master!

Find the Pokémon: In the Children's Room of the Library only, in the Courtyard and around the building perimeter but NOT in the parking lot (safety first!)

How to Report your Pokémon Sightings: Snap a picture of each Pokémon on your smart phone or camera and post the images on Instagram or Facebook; do not forget to tag Kimball Library! Call or email staff@kimballlibrary.com (ATTN: Youth Department) to list the names of each Pokémon you found. Stop by the Library to talk to one of our Youth Librarians to tell them how many Pokémon you found! Everyone who participates will get their very own Pokémon gym badge. Whoever spots the most will be named Pokémon Master at the end of the week.

CARE TO SHARE FOODIES: Now is the chance for young chefs to strut their stuff to other young foodies. Back by popular request, this second roung of virtual 'Care to Share' is an opportunity to demonstrate 'live' via Zoom how to make a quick recipe. The only restrictions are time--demonstrations are limited to 10 minutes max. The sky is the limit! From specialty grilled cheese, to microwaved mug cakes, to 7-layer dip, to breakfast food, to smoothies and more! Other teens and tweens will watch and learn while you show off your creation. If what you want to demonstrate is something that takes longer than 10 minutes, just pre-make or prebake the first part of your recipe and we can watch the final touches. This is a great way for t/weens to practice their skills and for other t/weens to grab some new recipe ideas! Register ASAP and let us know what you 'care to share'. This event for tweens and teens is only happening on April 27th at 6 PM.

RAINBOW FISH NUGGETS: Looking for nutrient-dense food options for your family? Want your children to have fun in the kitchen, while developing life-long kitchen skills? Please join Misa, from Misa's Clean Kitchen in baking simple and delicious food, free of gluten, dairy, and processed sugar. Class will take place via Zoom with the Kimball Library.  Muffin date and time is Tuesday, April 20, at 4:30 PM. The full recipe will be sent after class is over. Ideally the class is geared for children in preschool through elementary grades but all ages can register and enjoy.

Ingredients for Rainbow Fish Nuggets:1 pound skinless white fish (Misa uses wild frozen cod from Trader Joe’s) 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon sea salt, ½ cup almond flour, ½ cup ground gluten free crackers (Misa likes Simple Mills almond flour crackers), Avocado oil, ghee, or butter for cooking, substitute almond flour and ground crackers for 1 cup of whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs

Easy Dill Dip:½ cup high quality avocado oil based mayonnaise (Misa likes Primal Kitchen or Chosen Foods) or full fat Greek yogurt, ½ tablespoon Dijon mustard, ½ tablespoon lemon juice, ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon dried dill, and a pinch of sea salt.

Tools Needed: Food processor, cookie sheet or skillet, spatula, measuring cups and spoons, coffee grinder if you need to grind crackers, and a lemon press.

SPRING RAFFLE: The Friends are raffling off a Spring Money Tree: “Bills & Bows, Butterflies & Blossoms”. This is a simple and effective way to support the Friends of Kimball Library who manage to provide so many worthwhile events such as youth programs, the summer concert series, Humanities programs, museum passes and more. The tree is worth $150 and tickets are: 2 for $5; 5 for $10 or 12 for $20. Please come inside the Library to purchase your chances. The drawing will take place on Saturday, May 1st at 1:00PM. In our eyes, every ticket purchased is a win for the Library!
