Kimball Library News 12/12/16

Register the ‘littles’ for all the preschool opportunities in January if you have not already done so.  We require registration so we can adequately be equipped by space size and supplies.  If you sign up, we consider you registered for the rest of the academic school year with some exceptions for holidays and such.  Please send us an email or call if you cannot attend to help with our preparation.

MOTHER GOOSE ON THE LOOSE: Mother Goose on the Loose is a fun-filled thirty minute interactive session that uses rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments, and more to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers. Infants through age 2+ with their caregivers are invited to join us on Mondays at 10:30am for repetition and rhymes.  Please feel welcome to stay after the session to allow for playtime and socializing for all ages.

BITTY BOOKS: Children ages 2-3+ with their caregivers are invited to join us on Tuesdays at 10:15am for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs, and a simple craft.  This is a simplified story time for the children who are already two years of age.  It’s also a good fit for older children who have a hard time paying attention to more than one story per class.

KIDDIE LIT: Crafts, music, new friends and adventures into literacy are found during these classes. These classes meet on Tuesday at 11:30am, or Fridays at either 10:15 or 11:30am.  Most often multiple books are read and an accompanying activities are provided to go along with the theme.  Caretakers may stay and listen or relax in another part of the library.

ADULT CRAFT, PAINT & COLOR: Come to unwind, de-stress and create.  Join us in January for our Friday drop-in session from 10:15-12:15 and dabble in painting, coloring or bring a creative craft you would like to share.  This is an open time so feel free to stay the entire time, leave early or come late.  Remember, this is a no stress event so if you only have 30 minutes to spare than spend it relaxing with a group.

Research shows that creative activities help you relax after a busy day.  Be creative and have fun, no experience is necessary.  We will have limited supplies available however please feel free to bring your own supplies as well.  *Those who prefer to dabble in painting must bring your own supplies.

Registration is not required however it is suggested as it helps us to plan accordingly plus we can give you a friendly reminder that you have some time set aside JUST FOR YOU!

HOLIDAY HOURS: The Kimball Library will be closed from December 24-26 and again on January 2.  Please stock up accordingly, and have Happy Holidays from all of us!

Kimball Library News 12/5/16

Even though our regularly scheduled preschool classes are on break the last two weeks of December, there are many ways for you to use the library—especially during vacation week!  Consider taking out a museum pass to one of the following: Currier Museum of Art, Imajine That, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, Peabody Essex Museum, Seacoast Science Center, Strawbery Banke, or Zoo New England.  Reserve your passes online or in person.

GAMETIME: Up to a bit of group fun? Join us for game hour, from 4:30 – 5:30 on December 2nd, 9th, 16th, January 6th, 13th and 20th.  For 6 weeks on Fridays, our conference room will be the spot to go to enjoy a little competition with friends and neighbors.  Each week we will offer a different team game of choice. For starters we will do a “grab it, guess it, pass it game” using Electronic Catchphrase.  This is a team game that requires no previous experience.  This is so quick and exciting that you’ll leave wishing you had more time to play.

Other future games may include: Scattergories, Yahtzee or Uno.  Perhaps you have a game you would like to share with the group or the group may like one particular game so much that they prefers to play it again.

This is a perfect time to meet up with other adults who enjoy some fun and challenge that board games offer.  This particular series of games is for high school students and older.

*Please register, as space is limited however a 6-week commitment is not required. Come when you can! Let the games begin!

VACATION WEEK MOVIE: A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kind-hearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children.

This film is rated PG and the run time is 117 minutes.  Popcorn will be served. Feel free to bring movie candy and a bottle of water.  It is the library policy that children under the age of 10 may not be left unattended.

Please join us on Tuesday, December 27th, at 1pm.

CREATIVE WORDS: Want your child to express their creativity through art without all the mess in your house? Are you interested in your child practicing their reading skills in unique and engaging ways?

‘Creative Words’ will reinforce key reading skills through arts and crafts. Your child will be introduced to a variety of art mediums in three stations. Children aged 3 to 6 will love the fun themes each week and enjoy the ability to explore on their own pace with a child-directed format.

Limited spots are available.  ‘Creative Words’ is restarting in January on Thursdays.  There are two unique time slots—choose either 11:30am or 1:30pm.  You’ll want to register your child right away as to not miss out.  You will stay on the registration roster until April 20th.
