Ready or not, here we come with exciting summer reading events!  After the kick-off, we’ll be rolling out 4 or 5 events per week.  Get on the website and start registering for all the fun activities you won’t want your family to miss!

*Please note that grade entry is for the grade the child or teen will start in the Fall of 2017.

‘BUILD A ROBOT’ (*Register grades K-5): BUILD an Automated ROBOT on Thursday June 22, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 PM.

Calling all creative engineers!  Work in a team of kids to follow instructions, build a real automated robot, and test it out for functionality. Add your own creative details. Build collaborative, critical thinking, and crucial STEM skills. Help build a robot that will be on display at the library for the rest of the summer!

‘BUILD A MAGIC CARPET’ (*Register grades K-5) BUILD A BETTER WORLD with a MAGIC CARPET on Monday, June 26, from 6:30-7:30 PM.

Dhurrie Rugs or Magic Carpets! They've been made for many centuries. We will use bright colors of paper and yarn. Royal families would use Dhurri rugs to decorate the floors of their palaces. You need one of your very own. Make it a brighter world and brighten your room all at the same time!

‘SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: STONEY’S WICKED DIN’ This amazing concert will take place in the courtyard on Thursday, June 29th, starting at 6:30 PM. Stoney's Wicked Din (also known as ‘The Din’) is a 10-piece 'small big band', led by drummer/arranger Al Stone, and featuring unique and versatile vocalist Steve Faria. They play an unusual variety of jazz, swing, soul, blues, r&b, latin, and much more. Some of their music influences include: Ray Charles, Basie, Ellington, Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Aretha, Dr. John, Santana, Hector Lavoe, and Jobim. Stoney's Wicked Din pride themselves in being difficult to categorize.

Bring a blanket, lawn chair and enjoy the music!

All the above events are sponsored by the generous Friends of the Kimball Library.  Please thank this hardworking team for all they do to pay for quality events.

Did you blink?  It appears as though in a blink of an eye it’s time once again to register for summer reading!  Starting on June 1st, youth entering kindergarten through college in the Fall of 2017 can register to win prizes and start signing up for popular and awesome events before we are ‘SOLD OUT’. Sign up earlier for more time to enter our raffles!

Registration is rolling throughout June and July so anytime you stop in your child or teen can get started.  Registration is in person only and literally will take only a few minutes or less.

BUILD A BETTER WORLD T/WEEN registration is open to ATKINSON youth entering grade 6 to age 19 (as of Fall 2017). Events will be open to all, but we prefer you register at your home library for general registration.

Once you are registered, all you have to do is visit the library and check something out or participate in an event to earn a participation ticket for a raffle jar of your choice. Be sure that your name is on the front and your phone number is on the back.

Hint --à You can scan your library card into your smartphone or iPod in the Keyring app so you always have it available to check items out.

Drop your ticket in one of the raffle jars near the main desk to be eligible for random prize drawings held weekly.  Additional tickets (which means more chances to win!) will be given to any tweens or teens that register and participate in any of our events.

Prizes may include snacks, books, toys, gift cards, Water Country & Canobie Lake passes and more! You do not need to be present to win. T/weens have mostly gift cards as prizes whereas the littles have toy options. Prizes will be drawn randomly throughout the summer after the kick-off (June 21) up until August 3.

Help build a better world by being part of your library community.  Register, participate in events, and read! *All events have a required registration.  Sign up ASAP to avoid disappointment.*

‘BUILD A BETTER WORLD’ SUMMER KICK-OFF with JUNGLE JIM! (Register All Ages): Join Jungle Jim here at the library in the courtyard on Wednesday, June 21st, at 6:30pm as he leads our young people through the magical world of Minecraft! Combining balloon artistry, magic, comedy and improv, Jim creates an amazing experience for children. Activities include the Building Block Madness Tournament, a riveting Zombie Chase, the Balloon Firework Rocket extravaganza, and the incredible giant slime-ball creation!

This show will entertain all but is geared toward ages 3 and up.  You don't have to know anything about Minecraft to laugh at Jungle Jim's crazy antics. Bring a blanket or lawn chair or enjoy our built-in courtyard seating and enjoy the show!  Jim’s humor can appeal to all ages, so please don’t think that only the ‘littles’ will enjoy him.

This fun and entertaining event is sponsored by the Elizabeth Smith Estate.  Please register all ages in the family.

In the event of inclement weather, it will be held indoors or at Atkinson Academy.  We will notify you via email if this happens.

THE OLD HOUSE WHISPERER (ATKINSON HISTORICAL SOCIETY): Atkinson is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year and Mr. Cole will review some of our historic homes and their varied architecture. John is an authority in the field of historic American houses and enjoys sharing this passion with audiences of all ages. John was Property Manager for Historic New England and worked for Abbott Cummings, foremost American architectural historian. Mr. Cole taught Historical Preservation at the Harvard School of Design and at the University of Arkansas, Graduate School of Architecture. He maintains a website at www.oldhousewhisperer.com

Needless to say, the presentation Mr. Cole will put together regarding Atkinson houses should prove to be very interesting and educational. John is dedicated to preserving the past and understanding how our past has led to the present in the town of Atkinson.  Join us for this event on Thursday, June 15th at 6:30pm.  Admission is free and refreshments will be served.   Registration is not required.

ACOUSTIC TRUFFLE CONCERT IN THE COURTYARD:  Back by popular demand, join us for an evening of music with Acoustic Truffle starting at 6:30pm on Thursday, June 8th. This trio have been creating music together since 1986 and have achieved widespread popularity by headlining many respected venues as well as sharing the stage with international acts as Little Feat, Phish, The Band, Dave Matthew's Band, David Lindley, and Blues Traveler to name only a few. The trio's groove-driven acoustic style has a sound all its own. With elements of soul, bluegrass, R&B, and world beat, they bring a well-rounded set of 'music-Americana' to the stage. Their love of acoustic music, and a different set list and approach from their electric shows, creates truly unique listening experience.
