STAY-CATION EVENTS CONTINUED FROM LAST WEEK: We have a variety of school vacation week activities planned. Please register for all events in advance to avoid disappointment.

WEDNESDAY MAR 1: Snap Circuits: (Grades 2-5 at 1:00pm)-- With these projects, children will experiment with things like electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds. The lab will give kids opportunity to build in step by step fashion with the help of the facilitator.

Make Your Own Cheeseburger Pizza: (Grades K-6 at 4:30pm)-- Do you love hamburgers, or cheeseburgers? Would you like to learn how to make a pizza taste like your favorite burger? Roll your sleeves up and get creative making your own pizza you can take home to cook for dinner.

Don't like burgers? Make yours plain cheese! Or choose from the toppings provided and create your own recipe. (Please notify us of any allergies or dietary restrictions ahead of time.)

Tween Book Discussion: (Grades 5-7 at 6:30pm)-- Refreshments, questions, and answers all are served. The book of the month is ‘Stargirl’ by Jerry Spinelli. Pick up a copy ASAP at either desk.

THURSDAY MAR 2: Creative Young Artists: (Ages 3-13 between 12:30pm and 4:00pm)-- It's time to get creative! Join us at three stations using various art mediums and tools to create, draw, and sculpt. Come for a little time or stay for a while, feel free to drop in between 12:30 and 4:00.

Girls Who Code: (Grades 6-12 at 2:30-4:30pm)-- Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization that teaches girls computer science and programming concepts. This is a weekly meeting for girls who are already preregistered.

FRIDAY MAR 3: Sea Adventures: (Ages 3-11 between 10:30am and 2:30pm)-- Drop in on our day of marine fun! Explore and touch the 'sea', create an ocean scene to take home, and read books about your favorite sea creature. Come early or later and stay for a little or a long time.

ZUMBA for kids: (Ages 4-14 at 5:00pm)-- Zumba®Kids classes feature kid-friendly routines. Learn easy steps, play games, activities & explore language & cultural elements exposed in the music. Be ready for a great workout and a lot of fun! (Ambitious parents are welcome to join their kids.)

SONGS OF EMIGRATION: Storytelling Through Traditional Irish Music: Join us for a toe-tapping evening of traditional Irish music and storytelling with Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki.

Through traditional music Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki relays some of the adventures, misadventures, and emotions experienced by Irish emigrants. Jordan will discuss the historical context of these songs, interspersing their stories with tunes from Ireland that made their way into New England’s musical repertoire, played on his fiddle or guitar.

Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki is an award-winning fiddler who grew up playing dances and folk festivals around New England. His lifelong passion for history helps bring to life the traditional music around which he built his career.

Open to the public, this program is made possible by a grant from the NH Humanities Council and the Friends of the Kimball Library. Join us on Monday, March 6^th, at 6:30pm. Be prepared to hum along!

STAY-CATION EVENTS: We have a variety of school vacation week activities planned. Please register for all events in advance to avoid disappointment.

MONDAY, FEB 27: Travel Musically Around the World (Infants to Age 6 at 10:30am)--Explore multiple different languages through song, rhythm, and rhyme. Be ready to get up and clap your hands or move your feet to the beat. Miss Michelle and Miss Kathy will have you humming and singing some familiar tunes as well as teaching you some new ones. Exposure to foreign language deepens brain activity and lightens the heart! Register the littles ASAP.

Kids Knit-a-Bit (Ages 9-19 at 2:30pm)--If you already know how to knit bring your project. If you are new to it, we have easy scarf kits to purchase for $5 that includes pattern and yarn. Bring size 8 needles if you have them. Our little flock of knitters is growing! Come join the fun.

Brown Bag Club (Grades 3 & 4 at 6:30pm)--Bring a supper and have fun sharing what

you think. We’ll have drinks and desserts. The book is 'The Strange Case of Origami Yoda' by Tom Angleberger. We have multiple copies here waiting at the library for you to check out.

TUESDAY, FEB 28: BINGO for Books (Grades Pre K to Grade 5 between 1-3pm)--It's time to try your luck at BINGO and win books! How many books can you win? Come when you can and leave when you must. This window of time is so you can stay a little or a lot.

STEVE BLUNT CONCERT (All Ages at 6:30pm)-- Steve Blunt, an award-winning children’s musician from NH, will use stories, props, musical instruments and his popular songs to engage kids of all ages. Get ready to tap your toes and move and groove along!

About Steve: Steve is a self-proclaimed part-time music teacher, part-time singer/storyteller. He started creating songs for children back in the mid-90’s, while working as a middle-school English teacher and raising a young daughter. He now has six CD’s of funny songs for kids & families and lives in Nashua, NH. He is wildly popular with school age children, but he will have tweens and adults singing along as well.

Do not miss out on this indoor concert! Register the entire family.

MAH JONG: Whether you are a novice or an experienced Mah Jong player, come join the fun! Cozy up in the meeting room of the library, share some laughs, and make some new friends. Registration is required so we’ll know how many tables to prepare. Please sign up online or give us a call.

Mah Jong is a fun rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards. It does require some strategy as well as luck to play. A small amount of time and effort is needed to become familiar with the principles of the game and the rules of the game. We have a patient teacher waiting for you.

Kimball Library News 1/30/17

STANDING ROCK: Join us, Thursday evening, February 16, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 to hear Ann Podlipny discuss her first-hand experience at the Oceti Sakowin camp (otherwise known as the Seven Council Fires Camp). Oceti Sakowin Camp is the largest water protector encampment at Standing Rock Reservation. A massive camp-in led by the Standing Rock nation, aimed at blocking the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), which would carry oil from the Bakken shale in North Dakota across several states and under the Missouri River. She will provide a visual description from the weekend of December 4th when 5 thousand veterans and 7 thousand water protectors arrived to support the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.

The Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation is home to Dakota and Lakota people of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. On July 25, 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps) granted authorization to the Dakota Access Pipeline to cross Lake Oahe as part of the construction of a 1,100-mile pipeline that is proposed to carry over a half-million barrels of Bakken crude oil to Illinois and across four states.

The construction takes the pipeline less than one half mile from the Tribe’s reservation border and the pipeline would cross the Tribe’s traditional and ancestral lands and the construction of the pipeline jeopardizes many sacred places. The Tribe opposes DAPL because of the honor they have for their ancestors and sacred sites as well as protection the drinking water of the Tribe and its citizens.

About the presenter: Ann Podlipny has a career background in education and social work. She works closely with immigrants and refugees in Manchester, NH and volunteers teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

LOOKING FOR WAYS TO RELAX? Join us for our weekly drop-in programs: On Wednesdays from 10:30 – 12:30 Needle Crafters meet - Whether you enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting or another form of needle work come join the fun as we craft together. Newbies welcome too! Each Friday from 10:15 – 12:15 Adult Craft, Paint & Color meet- We have coloring supplies available however feel free to bring your own supplies as well. If you prefer to dabble in painting bring your own supplies. Working on a craft project and wish to share with the group, just bring extra supplies. Come alone or bring some friends. The more the merrier. Every day you’ll find a jigsaw table set up to try out & Sudoku puzzles along with newspapers and magazines in our reading area. There is a constant stream of folks who relax and enjoy reading the daily papers or using Wi-Fi to keep up with news.

ORIGAMI FUN: Origami is the art of paper folding and it is lots of fun! Feel like having a good time? Come and join us as we make several paper creations to create and take home. Adults are certainly welcome to help the younger kids fold. Please register if you'd like to join in the fun on Saturday, February 25^th, at 10:30am. Recommended for kindergarten age through grade 5.

HOLIDAY HOURS: The library will be closed on Monday, February 20^th, in recognition of Presidents Day. Please stock up accordingly, and do remember that Overdrive (NH Downloadable Books) and TumbleBook Library is open 24/7 right on our website.
