RUN to the library and register all
the youth! Summer reading registration
started June 1, and you won’t want the kids and teens in your family to miss
out. Besides activities for the kids,
we’ve got workshops for t/weens, and performers lined up for the entire
family. Be sure to check the paper each
week, but if you want details for the entire summer be sure to visit the online
calendar at www.kimballlibrary.com
T/WEEN CHARITY STITCH-A-BIT: In light of the 'BUILD A BETTER WORLD' summer
reading theme, youth entering grades 5 and up in the fall are invited to knit
and or/crochet for charity. We'll be working on easy baby hats or blankets or
such that will be donated to shelters or care centers. Help us to ‘build’ kids
who care by having your child register to come. We have adults on hand to help
the novice knitters/crocheters. Come for part or all of the 2 hour window on
Mondays starting June 19th from 2:30-4:30 most of the summer. We do not expect anyone to stay the entire
time, but we made a large window for convenience to your schedules. We will
tell you what you need to bring after you sign up, but if you have size 10.5
knitting needles, please keep them aside!
‘BUILD A
BETTER WORLD’ YO-YO SHOW with JOHN HIGBY: Who would have thought you
could make an entire show out of yo-yos? This husband and wife duo bring back
that nostalgic toy, reminding you of old favorite tricks such as Walk the Dog
and Rock the Baby, then amazing you with new and bizarre tricks, such as
Boingy-Boingy and The Human Rollercoaster.
Yo-yos attached to bouncy balls, yo-yos with 10-foot strings,
and multiple yo-yos looping while hula hooping and unicycling are just some of
their finely tuned feats. High skill and deft timing to swingin' music coupled
with high energy and sarcastic humor make the Yo-Yo People a favorite for every
age.
As seen on David Letterman, they hold 4 Guinness World
Records, a 2008 Yo-Yo World Champion title, and have performed in 26 countries.
Recently they have been seen at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Tour de Fat!
ALL AGES WILL ENJOY THIS SHOW.
Register the entire family and invite the cousins for a fun night in the
courtyard (will be held inside if it rains) on Tuesday, June 27th,
at 6:30pm sharp.
T/WEEN
YO-YO WORKSHOP: Register t/weens ages 9-19 to learn and practice
yo-yo tricks from John Higby immediately after his family performance starting
at 7:15pm. We are aiming for t/weens to have this time to themselves after the
show to work directly with him. Please register your age appropriate youth ASAP
to indicate interest. ANYone can have
fun with this. Bring your yo-yo if you
have one, but you can also use ones provided.
If not enough t/weens sign up, we will lower the age, so t/weens get
busy and invite your friends!
John Higby is a
professional yo-yoer and artist who goes by the name Mr. Yodel. John performs
busker style (the practice of performing in public places for tips and
gratuities) with his wife Rebecca Higby. He grew up and began yo-yoing in
Alaska. He currently lives with his family in Massachusetts. He is the only
yo-yoing act with a license to perform at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall.
These two spectacular yo-yo events are sponsored by The
Friends of Kimball Library.
