Summer reading events are officially over, but we are
continuing with preschool summer camps until August 18th. Children’s events will be on a 3 week
sabbatical, and then we’ll be hosting our fall line-up beginning the week of
September 11th. If you can’t
wait for the details in upcoming articles, just jump on the website and go the calendar
section and hunt for September. Many of
the events are already there for you to sign up for.
FALL BOOK
DISCUSSIONS: We’ll continue to have book discussions for the
littles as well as the adults. Have you
ever tried talking about books with others?
We have a book discussion for adults on the third Tuesday of each month
at 6pm, and we have another in the morning at 10:15 on the 4th
Wednesday of each month. These groups
need not be registered for and are open to try. There are a lot of laughs and
lively discussions at each!
We also have book clubs for grades 1-2, 3-5, 5-7, and
8-12! Check out the calendar as those
groupings require registrations. Each of
the clubs are unique. All of the book
discussion groups (adult or youth) have books available to be checked out. You do not need to buy a copy.
HEALTHY
COOKBOOK CLUB: Speaking of book clubs, try this on for
size. Do you enjoy checking out
cookbooks and trying new recipes? If so, why not join us for the Healthy
Cookbook Club that generally meets on the 3rd Monday of the
month. Our next meeting will be held on
Monday, August 21st at 6:30. You’ll be
greeted by the Healthy Cookbook Club facilitator, Karen DiPietro. Karen is a registered dietitian and leads the
group. *The cookbook club requires REGISTRATION and the space is limited.
Each month a different healthy cookbook is selected and
participants are able to check out a copy and spend time trying out the various
recipes at home. When the group gathers the next month, Karen will discuss the
health benefits of the various recipes and participants can share their
opinions of the meals they tried. In
addition, participants have the opportunity to select, prepare and bring a
sample of a recipe from the selected cookbook to share with the group.
Register so we know how many cookbooks to have on hand for
this healthy and yummy event.
DISPLAYS: In
support of Atkinson’s 250th Anniversary, the library lobby has been turned into
a museum of sorts. Period pieces,
antiques and collectables are on display in the lobby. Come see the beautiful clothing, linens,
household goods, and tools from time long since passed. Collections are provided by the Friends of
the Kimball Library and The Atkinson Historical Society and will be on display
until the end of September.
Please note the display case in the children’s room has items
that are collected by kids. Your children
may sign up for a month to show off their stuff! Contact Mrs. Birr in the children’s room to
sign up for a month.
