Kimball Library News 12/10/18
The Snap Circuits Lab is back, and it will give circuit curious youth opportunity to explore and build in step-by-step fashion for approximately one hour.
With its easy-to-follow instructions, Snap Circuits gives children a hands-on education in how electrical circuits work to run the everyday devices that they're familiar with. They'll also gain valuable lessons in building and in following instructions. With these projects, children will experiment with things like electric switches, integrated circuits, digital circuits, fuses, and the transformation of circuit sounds into other sounds. Because the projects are arranged in order of complexity, kids can build on their skills as they progress through the manual. The lessons start out with a simple electric light and switch project that demonstrates how electricity is turned on and off with a switch. Further along, kids can put together a two-speed fan, create clap-controlled sounds, and more. This is not a 'free play' activity.
Register youth in grades 2-5 only, please. These single evening opportunities are happening on most Tuesday evenings in January and February at 6:30 PM. More classes may be offered in future months depending on demand.

SAVVY CAREGIVER PROGRAM: The Savvy Caregiver program is a 6 week training program for caregivers who care for someone with Alzheimer's or Related Dementias. The program is facilitated by trained Practitioners. It is based on the notion that family members who become caregivers need to be trained to assume a new role- caregiving- for which they are unprepared and untrained. Throughout the program- and laced through the various program materials such as the Caregiver's Manual- the central concept that is emphasized is the notion of strategy. Caregivers will be urged to learn, develop and modify their strategies so they can accomplish their role of caregiving- which includes the contented involvement of the person they care for. The program builds information and knowledge about the illness, developing skills to manage daily life, and fosters a different attitude towards caregiving. The program is geared to informal caregivers of those either living at home or planning to return home, and in a moderate stage of illness.
The program runs for 6 weeks starting Thursday, January 10th from 1-3 PM, and we ask that participants commit to attending all 6 week sessions. The program as indicated is for active and formal caregivers and not for professionals seeking certification and license requirements. This program is sponsored by Rockingham County ServiceLink and The Kimball Library.
