The summer reading program officially ends on August 11th, so kids and teens should be making as many trips in as possible to gather up raffle tickets and prizes. The more you play, the better your odds are of winning! We hope to see many smiling and winning faces in the next several weeks.
Meanwhile, there are still story times and events to be registered for and attended. So go to the online calendar now and sign up! There will be a brief interlude of planning and pausing for fall events so soak up the last bits of summer with us.
ANIMAL MASH-UP: There are so many animals that all look so different from one another. We'll learn about why some animals look the way they do, and then we'll use what we learn to create our very own brand new animals. We'll cut and paste collages, mold fins and feathers out of clay, and trace and draw our own amazing creations. Everyone will be encouraged to name their newly discovered species and tell the group about it at the end. There will be one crazy zoo right here at the Library!
Register children entering grades K-5 for this special event happening on Monday, August 9th, at 6 PM.
MCDONNY’S FARM: Come down to the Library to meet Farmer McDonny and his animal friends. We’ll have small petting spots set up around the courtyard so children and teens can safely meet bunnies, goats, and more.
To make our Summer Finale event even more special, we’ll host a delicious shaved ice food truck. A Kona Ice truck will be here and all summer reading participants will receive a 9 oz Kona Ice! What a great way to slurp up the last bits of summer!
Register everyone who will be in attendance. Be prepared to be in the Library Courtyard. Bringing a blanket so you can remain socially distant in your own family space (while you’re not meeting the animals) is a great idea. You can even pack a picnic.
This celebratory event starts at 6 PM and is sponsored by the amazing Friends of Kimball Library.
READERS THEATER: On August 12th at 6:30 PM, we’ll be hosting the last Reader’s Theater of the summer. Register children in grades 2-5 to have a marvelous time trying out expressive reading with voices and in character. This is great fun for the dramatic reader and good practice for the reluctant readers. Scripts are handed out and parts are assigned and then the antics commence!
STAY TUNED: Visit our website, FaceBook page, Twitter account, YouTube or Instagram to learn about more program updates and more resources.
