LIFE-SIZED CANDYLAND (FAMILIES AND YOUTH AGES 2+) DROP-IN: Friday, February 28th between 10 AM and 4 PM
The Children's Room has turned into the Candyland board game!
Stop in anytime during the program hours to play. Compete with other participants or your family and move along the 'board', but don't get stuck at Gloppy Swamp or you'll miss your turn! We'll have crafts and activities set up in the Craft Barn for participants to work on while they wait to play.

NH Boating Safety Courses will be held at the Kimball Library on the following dates: *February 4th and 6th, March 4th and March 6th, April 1st and April 3rd, May 6th and May 8th.
The New Hampshire Classroom Course covers a variety of topics including boat navigation, boating safety equipment, invasive aquatic species, and laws and rules. This instructor-led class incorporates a range of learning methods consisting of lecture, videos, and student discussion. *Individuals must attend both paired evening classes. Each class meets from 6 – 9:30 PM.
Certification Cards: Upon successful completion of the course, students will leave with a boating certificate which is valid for 45 days. The permanent certificate card will be mailed to the address entered at the time of registration.
Who Needs Boating Education?: Everyone 16 years of age and older who operates a motorboat with over 25 horsepower on New Hampshire waters must have a valid boating education certificate.
Age Requirements: Students may register and take the course at 15 years old, although a boating education certificate will not be issued until their 16th birthday.
Special Accommodations: Individuals with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations by contacting the New Hampshire Marine Patrol at (603) 293-2037, option #1. Please allow a minimum of 30 days advance notice for the department to arrange a course and requested accommodations. FINDING YOUR ITALIAN ANCESTORS AND THE INS AND OUTS TO OBTAINING ITALIAN DUAL CITIZENSHIP: Thursday, January 30th at 6 PM
This presentation is designed for those just starting their Italian genealogical research or are interested in obtaining Italian Dual Citizenship. Lucia Cusimano will provide tips and resources to help with the process. Registration is required for this 90-minute presentation.
About the presenter: Lucia Cusimano holds a Certificate in Genealogical Studies from Boston University. She completed the 2020/2021 ProGen Study Group, an intensive fourteen-month study of Professional Genealogy, and has attended several genealogical institutes, conferences, and webinars focusing on traditional and Italian research. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), The New England Chapter (NEAPG), and several local and Italian genealogical groups. She is Curator at the Atkinson Historical Society.

THE LIFE AND WORK OF MILL GIRLS: Friday, January 17th at 2 PM
Follow the journey of a mill girl from her family farm in the New England countryside to her new job operating a loom in Lowell’s Boott Cotton Mills. Meet two mill girls during this virtual visit to their boardinghouse and weave room, learning about each girl’s unique experience of life and work in a textile mill. Led by Supervisory Park Ranger MaryBeth Faucher, of the Tsongas Industrial History Center.
THE SIX PILLARS OF BRAIN HEALTH WITH AARP: Monday, January 27th at 2 PM
It’s never too late to take charge of your brain health! In this session, you will learn about the six pillars of a brain-healthy lifestyle, discover brain boosting activities, and be inspired by others. Get ready to understand the importance of B.E. M.O.R.E. — (B)e Social, (E)ngage Your Brain, (M)anage Stress, (O)ngoing Exercise, (R)estorative Sleep, and (E)at Right. THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE PAWTUCKET AND PENNACOOK PEOPLES: Friday, January 31st at 2 PM
On this visit with the Buttonwoods Museum, join us for Pentucket on the Merrimack River, a program that discusses the history and culture of the Pawtucket and Pennacook peoples – the first residents of the Merrimack Valley and Essex County. Participants will have the opportunity to examine real artifacts from the Luce Archaeology Collection. Led by Thomas Spitalere, a local historian and supervisor with the Buttonwoods Museum.

PAWS TO READ WITH ORLA (Emerging Readers): Wednesday, January 15th between 3:30 and 4:30 PM
For many children, reading can be a daunting task. This can be especially true for shy, quiet kids. Paws to Read offers readers a quiet, calm opportunity to gain reading confidence with a friendly dog. Orla, the Golden Retriever therapy dog and her handler Kate are here to provide a “judgement free” zone for children to practice their reading skills. It doesn’t matter to Orla whether your child is an emerging or fluent reader. She is excited to sit and listen to your child read their favorite books.
Children should bring a simple book they feel comfortable with. We recommend practicing before your appointment to ensure you get the most out of your time. Sign up on the online calendar for the timeslot that works best for you.

Join tour guide Anna Levina on a journey through Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter where 3,000 years of history comes alive embracing the importance of this city for the three monotheistic religions. See archeological findings from 7th century BCE, an amazingly preserved 2,000-year-old Roman street, the majestic Hurva Synagogue, an old mosque and more. In conjunction with the Addison Gallery of American Art’s exhibition Kay WalkingStick join Marla Taylor and Ryan Wheeler on Zoom for a virtual conversation on a museum’s role and responsibilities in stewarding Native American cultural material. The Peabody Institute has lent several works from their vast collection to the Addison’s current installation.

VOX Books are now available in the Children’s Room! These read along books combine audio books with print for a unique experience you and your child are sure to love. No need for CDs as these audio books are built right into your book. Just turn the device on, push play, and follow along with some of your favorite stories. VOX Books are available for one-week loans and can be found next to our Launchpad collection. Stop into the Children’s Room and check out our selection today!
VACATION VIBES: December 26th – December 31st
Join us for some holiday fun! From December 26th through December 31st we will have all kinds of activities geared for youth. From games and puzzles to cookie decorating and dance parties, there’s fun to be had by everyone! Check out what we have going on below.
THURSDAY the 26th
10:15 AM – 2 PM: Glitzy Games (All youth): We have Uno, Jenga, Checkers, and more! Bring your family and your besties or challenge a Children’s Librarian to play. No registration necessary for this program. Come when you can, leave when you must.
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM: Toddler Time (Youth ages 3 & up): We’ll have STEM toys and sensory stations available. No registration necessary, just come when you can during the program hours and leave when you need to.
FRIDAY the 27th
ALL DAY: Puzzle Palooza (All Youth): From 9:30 AM - 5 PM we will have ALL of the puzzles out. From toddler puzzles to more challenging 300 piece puzzles, spend some quality family time working together. No registration necessary. Stop in anytime during our open hours to ‘puzzle’ with your loved ones.
10 AM – 4 PM: Think Outside the Box (Youth ages 3 & up): The STEM toys are out! See what you can make together. No registration necessary. Stop in anytime during program hours.
1 PM – 4:30 PM: Holiday Library Look & Find (Youth ages 3 & up): - Snowflake the Elf has come to visit us! Stop in to the Library and see if you can spot her before she goes back to the North Pole. If you can find her (and perhaps a friend or two) you can get a prize!
MONDAY the 30th
11 AM – 12 PM: Preschool Playtime (Babies, toddlers, preschool): Join us in the meeting room to play with blocks and make connections! No registration necessary. Come when you can during the program hours and stay as long as you like.

WILDLIFE CORRIDORS AND TURTLE CULVERTS WITH PETER STECKLER: Thursday, December 5th at 6 PM
Although Atkinson is more developed than it used to be, we still share our town with many forms of wildlife. In order for these animals to safely move about and gain access to the food, water, shelter, and space that they require, it is important to protect and maintain our wildlife corridors. Join us to learn where the priority wildlife corridors are located in our town, and how we can maintain and enhance these areas that are vital to the survival of our wildlife.

CURIOUS CREATURES (GRADES K-5): Wednesday, November 13th at 6 PM
Curious Creatures provides experienced and professional exhibitors who teach respect and appreciation for exotic and unusual animals. Their presentation is hands-on and interactive. They include interesting facts and stories about the creatures in an educational and entertaining environment.

EXPLORING THE CULTURE OF NORTH EAST WOODLAND NATIVE AMERICANS: Thursday, November 14th at 6 PM
Register and join us for a talk for Indigenous People's month. Learn about Native American history and culture in the Northeast Woodlands (which would have extended from New England to the Great Lakes Region). Be enlightened about basic survival of early tribes in this area.
Our presenters, Russ and Elly, reside in New Hampshire. They enjoy reading, gardening, and dabbling in Native American crafts. They also volunteer at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner, NH.
TALKIN TURKEYS: Tuesday, November 19th at 6 PM
Learn about turkey biology, behavior, the history of wild turkeys in New Hampshire and the reintroduction of turkeys into the state. The wild turkey population represents one of the greatest wildlife conservation success stories in the state’s history. Please register on our website to attend.
About the presenter: Andrew Timmins has worked for the NH Fish and Game Department as a wildlife biologist for 30 years. His career with the agency started in the southwest region of the state working directly with Department’s wildlife turkey biologist at the time. Currently Andrew works as the Game Programs Supervisor and oversees all game species programs ranging from deer, to waterfowl, to moose.

NOVEMBER ADULT BOOK DISCUSSIONS: We have two adult book discussions this month and you are free to attend either or both. Copies of the books are available for checkout at the main circulation desk.
EVENING: On the 19th at 6 PM we will be discussing Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. This is a poignant, charming novel about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.
MORNING: On the 22nd at 10:15 AM we will be discussing Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded shops, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That's just what the Kranks have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they'll skip the holiday altogether. But, as this weary couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences - and isn't half as easy as they'd imagined.

Whether you enjoy knitting, crocheting, rug braiding, quilting or another form of needle work, come join us for Needle Crafters. Each Wednesday, this informal gathering is a fun meet-up for those who are currently working on projects or who wish to start one. Are you stuck on a stitch or confused by a pattern? Most likely someone in the group can help. It is a great opportunity to get some ideas for beginning new projects as well. JACKIE’S NO FEAR PAINTERS ARTWORK ON DISPLAY UNTIL OCTOBER 25TH
Jackie Cunningham has been teaching oil painting since she retired as a way to share her gift. Over the years, many people in the area (and outside it) have joined her for a two-hour weekly class.
This exhibit showcases local artists, past and present, who have come together for fun, friendship and to fulfill their passion for oil painting.
LITTLE GROOVE MUSIC (BABIES TO AGE 5): Friday, October 18th at 10:15 AM
Children ages 3 months to age 5 and their caregivers are invited to join us for a toe-tapping good time. Little Groove Music will visit the Kimball Library to introduce your little ones to music and instruments with this very special program. Registration is required.
Little Groove music classes offer a unique and engaging experience for children. Through the use of sound, sight, and touch, toddlers and preschoolers are able to learn and interact in a live music setting.
The classes are designed to help children build important motor, social, cognitive, and language skills through catchy songs and the use of real instruments such as drums, maracas, and tambourines. The classes also incorporate interactive props such as puppets, balls, stacking cups, and a large parachute. Little Groove music classes are the perfect way to introduce your child to the joy of music and learning.
CRAFT, PAINT & COLOR: Mondays from 12:30 – 2:30 PM
Come unwind, de-stress and create every week. Individuals come together to dabble in painting, coloring or creative crafts using oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen and pencil. Individuals bring their own supplies and work on canvas, wood, sketchpads and coloring books. Group size will be limited and registration is required.
Research shows that creative activities help you relax. This is an open time so feel free to stay the entire time, leave early or come late. Remember this is a no stress event so if you only have 30 minutes to spare than spend it relaxing with fellow creative art enthusiasts. Registration is not required for this event. Stop in at any point during the program hours and leave when you need to.
