SACK SUPPER CINEMA: THE JUNGLE BOOK on Friday, September 9th, @5pm (Register All): Join us for movie night at the library.  The feature film is THE JUNGLE BOOK in 3D.

2016′s The Jungle Book is a modern retelling of the Disney classic, featuring updated computer animation and stunning new effects. The story centers on a young boy named Mowgli and his life being raised in the jungle by various jungle animals, including a bear, panther, and wolves. With a star-studded cast and the latest in graphics effects, The Jungle Book is a coming of age story telling the trials and tribulations that young Mowgli goes through as he learns his place in the world, among animals who look very different from him and act very differently from how he acts as well. 

Running Time 1 hr. 51 min.  The film is rated PG.  Popcorn will be served to our guests. The movie will begin at 5:00 PM. You are welcome to bring a paper bag supper or movie treats to enjoy. Water bottles are encouraged. Non-residents are welcome.  NOTE: Children under the age of 10 may not be left unattended.

AUTHOR & ANIMAL ADVOCATE, DAVID ROSENFELT: Join us September 15^th to hear best-selling author, humorist, and dog rescuer, David Rosenfelt. David will speak about his latest work and how he came to be an animal advocate.  He has written over 25 novels including the highly successful Andy Carpenter Mystery series of which the newest release is called Outfoxed.  Some of his recent stand-alone mystery novels includes: Airtight, Without Warning and Blackout and his ever popular non-fiction hits include: Dogtripping, Puppies Express and Lessons from Tara.

David Rosenfelt is an engaging speaker as well and you don't want to miss your chance to meet him.  Books will be available for purchase.  In addition there will be two raffles (1) a chance to win some signed David Rosenfelt books from his Andy Carpenter Series and (2) a chance to win your name as a character in a future David Rosenfelt novel.  All raffle proceeds as well a portion of the proceeds from the book sales will be donated to the Salem Animal Rescue League.

This event requires registration.  There will be an afternoon (3:00 – 4:30) and evening (6:30 – 8:00) presentation so please choose when registering which session you plan to attend.  

TURN IT ON: Tech THIS out!  If you have an e-reader or gadget that you want to learn how to use with free downloadable books, then we can help you.  You can have a brief lesson here called “Turn it On!” on your tech toy (Kindle, iPad, iPod, cell phone or other device compatible with Overdrive) and learn how to put a free library e-book on it.  This is a basic tutorial for newbies. 

Please register for an appointment.   Available time slots are on the online calendar link right on our website at www.kimballlibrary.com.  Got questions regarding what you should bring?  Ask for Kathy Watson (tech toy technician) at (603) 362-5234.  (These tutorials are for resident card holders in good standing only, please.)

Kimball Library News 8/1/16

Summer camp story times (Mother Goose on the Loose, Bitty Books, and Kiddie Lit) have come to an end, but registrations for these activities are available on the September calendar for the academic school year.  Get your spot secured and register online on the event calendar or give us a shout and we’ll do it for you. 

• Mondays:  Mother Goose on the Loose (Register ages 0-2+) Infants through age 2+ with their caregivers are invited to join us for simple stories, rhymes, finger plays, and songs.  Please feel welcome to stay after the session to allow for playtime and socializing for all ages.
• Tuesdays: Bitty Books (Register ages 2-3+)  Children ages 2-3+ with their caregivers are invited to join us for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs, and a simple craft.
• Tuesdays & Fridays: Kiddie Lit (Register ages 3-6) Crafts, music, new friends and adventures into literacy are found during these classes. Caretakers may stay and listen or relax in another part of the library.

VOLARE JAZZ BAND: Join us on Thursday, August 25th at 6:00pm in our beautiful acoustic courtyard to enjoy The Volare Jazz Band! The Volare Jazz Band (AKA Timberlane Community Big Band) is group of talented musicians from the Timberlane Community Band. The group plays mostly big band jazz as well as a few old standards. 

Catch the last few lovely bits of summer. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a great evening of music.  Handicapped parking is available from the library parking lot.  

BIG TRUCK NIGHT (TOUCH A TRUCK): All ages are welcome to come see the array of vehicles on Monday, August 29^th, starting at 6pm in the upper parking lot.  Touch a truck, talk to the drivers, get behind the wheel, start the engine (OH WAIT)!  You get the idea.  Some frozen confections will be offered due to the generosity of the Atkinson Congregational Church.  Pack up the kiddos and meet your neighbors up on the hill.   This is a wonderful community event for all.  Shout out in advance to Trooper Jason Lewis for securing so many of the vehicles for us!

Kimball Library News 7/25/16

The magic tree house book club is having a summer meeting on Thursday, August 18^th, at 4:30pm.  

Eight-year-old Jack, his seven-year-old sister, Annie, and Peanut the mouse ride in a tree house to the Amazon rain forests, where they encounter giant ants, flesh-eating piranhas, hungry crocodiles, and wild jaguars.

This month's selection is 'Afternoon on the Amazon' by Mary Pope Osborne. It is the 6th book in the series. Get ready for adventure as we travel in time.

The club is for 1st & 2nd graders. Registration is required and books are available in the children's room.

WATER GUN PAINTING: Come blast water guns filled with paint to create beautiful pictures. Be creative while you enjoy some good old-fashioned summer fun.  Register your children (ages 4 and up) to participate on Wednesday, August 10^th, from 4:30-5:15pm.  Capture the last few fun events before school starts.

MOVIE IN THE COURTYARD: Join the Atkinson Recreation Department for an outdoor movie in the Kimball Library Courtyard on Thursday, August 11^th, starting at 7:15pm.

Zootopia is a city filled with talking animals. When a fox has to run from a crime he didn't commit, the best cop in the city has to chase him down. That cop happens to be a rabbit. Things are not always what they seem in Zootopia. The fox and rabbit become embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens to bring them both down. They'll have to work together to find out what's really going on in Zootopia. Can enemies save each other's lives and become friends?

The Kimball Courtyard will be sprayed with professional organic pesticides before the movie to help make this a bug free environment.

This fun film is rated PG and has a run time of 1 hour, 45 minutes.  Popcorn and drinks will be served.  Bring beach chairs, blankets, or use our built-in courtyard seating.

CONCERT IN THE COURTYARD:  Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a great evening on Thursday, August 18th as we have lots going on!  Join us in the Kimball Library Courtyard starting at 4:30 for a meet & greet.  From 5:00 – 6:00 pm purchase some good eats for a good cause.  For a $5.00 charge enjoy a meal of hamburger or hotdog, chips and a drink with proceeds going toward the Elder Services Transportation Fund.  The Atkinson Recreation will be offering free ice cream sundaes to everyone.  Sit back and relax to the sounds of the Timberlane Community Band starting at 6pm. No registration required is required to attend this event.
