Do you like to look forward to a good movie or a concert? Does it sweeten the pot when it’s all for
free? Check our listing of summer movies
(next in the queue on July 11 ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’) or summer concert series
(next in the queue on June 29 ‘Stoney’s Wicked Din’) for an afternoon or an
evening of delight. Invite your friends
and make it a party at ‘our house’. Keep
abreast as to what’s next by referring to the website or stop by and talk to
us. We’ll be glad you came.
BUILD
with STEAM TOYS: Stop in anytime On Thursday, July 6th,
between 10:30am and 4:30pm to try your hand at building and construction using
Magformers and Brainflakes. Stay for a
small amount of time or stay for hours and build some brain power!
Using these types of toys can improve scientific thinking
using the principals of magnets, foster creative imagination, enhance
intelligence for 3D configurations while making 3D shapes, and develop mathematical
thinking while combining and connecting blocks to understand and utilize
concept of space and principles. Don’t
you worry, they won’t feel a thing except fun!
Please register children ages 3 and above. Younger siblings
will not be allowed into the room without adult supervision.
BUILD a KURAKURA HABONDANMA: In Japan, children are encouraged to make and enjoy
old fashioned traditional toys. They still have many electronic toys too, but
this Japanese bubble spinner is made from items we find around the house. Come
make one, have some Pocky while you're here, and learn a little bit about a
different part of our big world.
Please register children entering kindergarten
through 5th grade in the Fall of 2017 for this ‘Build a Better World’ event
happening on Monday, July 10th, at 6:30pm.
TECH
TUTORIALS: If you own an e-reader or gadget that frustrates
you, then perhaps we have just what you are looking for. You can have a brief
lesson here on your tech toy (Kindle, iPad, Nook or other device compatible
with Overdrive) and learn how to put a free e-book on it. This is a private
basic tutorial designed for newbies and is limited to 30 minutes.
Also available is some very basic computer instruction. This
is for beginners only - email, basic web surfing, setting up Facebook or other
social media account, creating a document, etc. If you have questions you can
ask for Kathy Watson at 603.362.5234.
These instructional classes are one-on-on and designed to give you the
answers to your specific query if possible. (Kimball Library resident card holders
only, please.)
