Kimball Library News 7/3/17

Miss Maybell and Slimpickin’s are a unique musical duo based in Jackson N.H. They play American Roots, Blues, Jazz, Country, and Ragtime music from the 1910-40s, as well as classic original tunes. They were recently awarded by New Hampshire Magazine “Best of N.H. 2016”, for Best Americana Music. Their rustic sound is entirely acoustic, made with Resonator guitar, banjo, ukulele, Washboard, suitcase drum kick and a 1930’s bazooka Kazoo, just to name some of their instrumentation.

They have been playing all around New England and in New York City and have been tremendously well received! Some venues worthy of note are the legendary Folk venue Club Passim, The Press Room, Acoustic Artisans, The Cold River Radio Show , Le Fanfare , and Epistrophy. Miss Maybell & Slimpickin’s have also been featured on several radio stations like: WMWV, WMPG Portland, & WNHN Concord.  They have also been featured on Dan Aykroyd’s Blues Radio Program “Blues Breaker” this past July.

“They pose like a Grand Ole Opry comedy act (think Minnie Pearl) and play music from the 1920-1930s-era, jug band, ragtime, jazz and blues with sincere virtuosity. Slimpickin’s writes songs and plays classic finger-style guitar; Miss Maybell plays banjo and taps her steel brushes on a tricked-out washboard. She also commands an impressive kazoo, but the secret weapon they unleash is Maybell’s vocals — deep and strong enough to join an angel choir with the likes of Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday.” – New Hampshire Magazine
