Kimball Library News 7/30/18


As the summer winds down so do our summer camps (Mother Goose, Bitty Books, and Kiddie Lit) that are all geared for infants through age 6.  The last 3 weeks in August are prep time for the new fall story times.  Even as this article is being written, registrations for the above are open that all begin the week on September 10th. In addition there will be Sensory Story Time, S.T.E.A.M., and a few other surprises up our sleeve.  Stay tuned here, or take sneak peeks at the online calendar on our website and get your registrations in early.  All youth and teen classes, book clubs, etc. will also require registration.

SUMMER MOVIES: Chappaquiddick ~ August 14th @ 1:00  
 
In the riveting suspense drama, Chappaquiddick, the scandal and mysterious events surrounding the tragic drowning of a young woman as Ted Kennedy drove his car off the infamous bridge, are revealed in the new movie starring Jason Clarke as Ted Kennedy and Kate Mara as Mary Jo Kopechne. Rated PG-13.  Runtime:  1 hour 41 minutes.
A Fantastic Woman ~ August 28th @ 1:00  
 
Marina and Orlando are in love and planning for the future. Marina is a young waitress and aspiring singer. Marina's life is thrown into turmoil following the death of her partner. Mourning the loss of the man she loved, she finds herself under intense scrutiny from those with no regard for her privacy.  Rated R.  Runtime: 1 hour 40 minutes.  This film won an Oscar for 'Best Foreign Language Film', and will be shown in English subtitles.

Later the fall we will be back to meeting almost weekly.  Remember always that titles of films are subject to change and we update the website as soon as we know. 

TIMBERLANE COMMUNITY BAND COOKOUT AND CONCERT: We will welcome the Timberlane Community Band on August 16th at 4:30 PM for a cookout and show. The 50 piece band plays music that can be loved by all ages. Some of the local favorites are 'The Star Spangled Banner,' 'American Fanfare,' 'American Flourish,' 'Armed Forces,' 'Gershwin Tribute to Love,' 'Grease,' 'Star Wars,' and 'Stars and Stripes Forever.' At 4:30 you may participate in a cookout benefiting Atkinson’s Elder Services. For only $5 you can get a burger or hot dog, chips and a drink! Atkinson Recreation will be providing an ice cream treat for all in attendance and the concert will start at 6:00. *This event is sponsored by the Atkinson Recreation, Atkinson Elder Services and the Atkinson Lions Club. Parking is limited so we encourage carpooling. 

REGULAR GATHERINGS: Just as a reminder, we do have groups that meet weekly that different age groups can be part of.  We have stitch groups for youth on Mondays, Mah Jong for adults on Mondays (with Mah Jong instruction provided for newbies in September), and Needle Crafters for adults on Wednesdays.  

Monthly offerings include Healthy Cookbook Club and various other book groups.  These groups meet year round and currently all are taking new interested folks.  Call for questions or sign up online.
