Kimball Library News 10/20/14

KNITWITS: Whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter, come join the fun as we learn together.  This is an informal gathering to complete unfinished projects or perhaps get some ideas for beginning some new ones.  We’ll cozy up in the Atkinson Room of the library, share some laughs, drop a stitch or two, and make some new friends.  Please bring your own supplies.  All experience levels and ages welcome.

FEELING LUCKY?: The library currently is hosting two concurrent raffles.  One sports everything from baskets loaded with themed items such as all the fixings for ice cream sundaes to a beautiful photograph of Arcadia National Park.  We have baskets for spa lovers, bakers, Christmas lovers, and more.  To date, we have 16 different baskets to choose from.  These tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.

We also have a raffle tree loaded with gift cards from places such as Moynihan Lumber, The Early Bird, Sullivan Tire and Auto Repair, and Dunkin Donuts.  This gift certificate bonanza value is $470.  These raffle tickets are priced at $5 each or 3 for $10.

These baskets will be in the library until October 31st, and from there they will be held at the Peddler’s Market on Saturday, November 1st, at the Atkinson Community Center from 9am-3pm.  The drawing will take place near the close of the market.  You need not be present to win.  Buy now, and buy often!  Win or lose, all proceeds fund programs for the library so that alone makes you a winner.

VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM with Author & Artist ROBERT BRUN: Join us on Monday, November 10th, at 6:30pm to hear author artist, Robert Brun.  Brun's interest in aviation began at a very early age.  During the first 18 years of his life he built scale and flying models of just about 'anything with a propeller', but his primary interest is aircraft of the 1930s and 40s.  He published his first historical fiction book My Shadow in 2013.  Robert will talk about his love for aviation and his new project with veterans.

Robert will have his military and aviation art on display at the library from October 20th through November 21st.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Refreshments will be served.

LIBRARY CLOSED: The library will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans’ Day.  Please stock up accordingly.

THE HARRY POTTER HOGWARTS TRAINING ACADEMY: The Hogwarts Academy Training is a fully interactive performance which prepares the participants for their entrance into Hogwarts. Professor Jungle-Flick (Jungle Jim of Boston), of the American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, leads the children through a series of activities designed to show them the rigors of becoming official magical conjurers. This performance combines audience interaction along with balloon magic with a specific goal: that the children complete the quests presented to them, and then are ready for the next level of their wizard training.
Some of the activities:

·         Quidditch Training
·         Sorcery 101 (where the children learn to cast spells themselves!)
·         Defense Against the Dark Arts
·         Hogwarts History

The professor uses over a dozen volunteers in this performance, and the whole show is a lot of fun. Get your camera ready, because you’ll be catching some great shots of you or your kids laughing, smiling, and having the best time of their lives!

This family show is developmentally geared for ages 4-12, but all ages are welcome to participate, and fun is for everyone.  We need all ages to register as we do have space limitation.  Adults can just use the word 'adult' so we can have an accurate head count.  PLEASE PRINT A TICKET TO GAIN ADMITTANCE.  This is a new feature that we are using to keep count.

This amazing event is being held on Saturday, November 15, at 10:30am at The Atkinson Community Center, 4 Main Street, Atkinson, NH and is being generously sponsored by the Atkinson Recreation Department.  “GIVE BACK” and bring non-perishable food items and canned goods to benefit local food pantries.

Please dress in wizard garb to get into the spirit of things!  A few prizes will be awarded for the most 'wizard-like' in several age categories.

Residents have preference for this event.  We ask that non-resident guests and friends wait until Friday, November 14th, to put your name in the queue.

MEET THE CANDIDATES on October 23 @ 6:30pm: You're invited to meet your candidates for the offices of State Representative for the Rockingham 14th (Plaistow, Atkinson) and 34th Districts (Plaistow, Atkinson, Hampstead, Kingston), and State Senate, Rockingham 22nd District at the Plaistow Public Library.  Discussion moderated by Robert Harb, Esq. This event is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.  To submit questions for consideration, contact Brianna at
programming@plaistowlibrary.com or 603-382-6011. This event is in collaboration with Kimball Library and we encourage you to meet the candidates and become an informed voter.
