Learn how to make a beautiful fresh boxwood tree to enjoy for the holidays. The boxwood tree is an elegant design made out of boxwood and decorated with velvet ribbon, gold glass balls, berries and natural gypsophila. This popular centerpiece will last for months and is perfect for your home or for those who want a small holiday tree to enjoy. Felicia does not let anyone leave with a Charlie Brown tree—even those 'less crafty' will have a beautiful creation.

Reservations are required and must be done in person at the library with a materials fee of $40.00 paid in advance. Payment in cash or checks only.  Please make checks payable to Felicia Motherway.

Seating is limited so stop by and reserve your seat today. This always popular class is on Monday, December 6, from 6:00-8:00 PM.

MORNING BOOK CLUB: Join us for each month to discuss a book we've chosen. Tell us what your thoughts are on the book and hear what others have to say.  It’s always a fun time with lively conversation with old and new friends.

Please register if you would like to be part of our reading group. Typically, we meet on Wednesdays at 10:15, but in November we are going off script and meeting on Friday, November 19th, to avoid the Thanksgiving commitments.

November's Book: The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure.

In 1942 Paris, architect Lucien Bernard accepts a commission that will bring him a great deal of money—and maybe get him killed. All he has to do is design a secret hiding place for a Jewish man, a space so invisible that even the most determined German officer won't find it while World War II rages on. He sorely needs the money, and outwitting the Nazis who have occupied his beloved city is a challenge he can't resist.

Soon Lucien is hiding more souls and saving lives. But when one of his hideouts fails horribly, and the problem of where to conceal a Jew becomes much more personal, and he can no longer ignore what's at stake.

WALL STREET JOURNAL ACCESS: We still have access to WSJ in case you’ve tried logging in recently and have been perplexed as to why it seems like you’ve been denied.

Log into our new Aspen catalog (Kimball.aspendiscovery.org) with your patron barcode ID and password to access the link. Log into your existing WSJ account, or create a new one if you don't already have one.

You'll have access for 3 days, at the end of which you have to go back to step one. (I know, but I can’t change that part for you!)

Please note: The Wall Street Journal apps do not work for library users, but the web version works very well with small screen devices.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS: Please note that we will be closed on Thursday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans’ Day. Also, on the horizon is Thanksgiving, and that is a multiple day closure. Kimball Library News 10/10/21

If you love the library and want to have a voice about it within the Town of Atkinson, you may wish to spend a bit of your Saturday hearing what Trustees do and how they shape library policies.

You may learn how your skills and talents can be used and decide to become involved in giving back to our community. Or, you might become more enlightened about this important community asset and plan your involvement for a future date. It’s a great opportunity either way!

On October 30, 2021, there will be a brief presentation at the Library to describe the role and expectations of the Trustee in managing the operations of the Library and its staff. There are no obligations beyond listening and hopefully learning.

Trustees will be available to describe the role and requirements of this elected office. Please register to attend. The informative session starts at 10:15 and is expected to run about an hour long depending on questions.

BROWN BAG BOOK CLUB: We’re starting a new season of Brown Bag reading! Read the book and come with some of your dinner in a bag.  We eat, talk, and treats and drinks are provided.  Please register grades 3-6 to join and discuss with us.

Our book for October is Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo. We meet on the 28th at 6:00 PM.

It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You! is the just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry—and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new Youth Services Librarian-Miss Katie Cloughley.

Katie is originally from Goffstown, New Hampshire and spent some time as an undergraduate working with a wildlife rehabilitator before she went on to get her MILS. She previously worked at the Bedford Public Library in Bedford, New Hampshire where she created programs -- often science-based, for children up to 12 years old. The messier the program, the better! She loves to explore and create almost as much as the kids she works with!

Her first programs coming up will be Sensory Storytime. STEAM and STEM based programming is her jam! See the details below.

SENSORY STORYTIME: Join us for an exceptional exploratory class: Sensory Storytime!

Some story times are too long!

Some classes are too easy.

Sensory Storytime is just right for your two or three-year-old who is almost ready for full storytime, but may still be challenged by so much structure. Thursday mornings at 10:30 will be just the right place for your child at Kimball Library.

Join us for one story, followed by an opportunity to play with sensory and art activities that reinforce what was heard in the story. Please register once for the fall session. Visit the online calendar or call us at 603 362-5234 to get started.

T/WEEN BOOK DISCUSSION: The book of the month is 'Girl in the Blue Coat' by Monica Hesse.

Amsterdam, 1943. Hanneke spends her days procuring and delivering sought-after black-market goods to paying customers, her nights hiding the true nature of her work from her concerned parents, and every waking moment mourning her boyfriend, who was killed on the Dutch front lines when the Germans invaded. She likes to think of her illegal work as a small act of rebellion.

On a routine delivery, a client asks Hanneke for help. Expecting to hear that Mrs. Janssen wants meat or kerosene, Hanneke is shocked by the older woman's frantic plea to find a person - a Jewish teenager Mrs. Janssen had been hiding, who has vanished without a trace from a secret room. Hanneke initially wants nothing to do with such dangerous work, but is ultimately drawn into a web of mysteries and stunning revelations that lead her into the heart of the resistance, open her eyes to the horrors of the Nazi war machine, and compel her to take desperate action.

Join the most chill t/weens and chat with us about this book on Wednesday, November 3rd, at 6:00 PM. Multiple copies of the book are here and available for check-out. Candy is served...
