BALLOON HOCKEY: Balloon hockey is sure to get the children moving and is a perfect game for the ‘on your mark, get set’ summer reading theme. We'll need a few items to make our hockey stick and then it's just blowing up the balloons and we're on our way to invigorating play!

This is a summer reading activity for kids entering kindergarten through grade 5. Registration is required for this event taking place on Monday, July 25th, at 6:30pm.  After we get our supplies ready there will be nothing left to do but smack the balloons right to the goal! We’ll shoot, and then we’ll score! Refreshments will be provided for the recovery afterward.  :)

BASKETBALL ENTERTAINMENT WITH CHAMPION ILZE LUNEAU: You will be amazed with never before seen basketball ball-handling tricks with three, four, five, and six basketballs.  Ilze dribbles, juggles and spins basketballs on a balance board, and using other props to music and dance.  Volunteers may get to spin 1, 2 and 5 or 6 basketballs at once, eat a pudding while a ball spins on a spoon, etc.
Ilze is the first person (male or female) to ever dribble 5 and 6 basketballs using just hands.  And Ilze is the only one who can dribble 5 basketballs on an indo board.

You can enjoy the show and at the same time hear a valuable message on setting goals, working hard, never giving up and leading a balanced life while achieving your dreams and enjoying every day.

Ilze Auzina-Luneau came to United States from Latvia. Ilze was an All-American basketball player at the College of Saint Rose, 1993-1997, and graduated with a finance and international business degree in 1997.  In 2001, she received her MBA degree from SUNY, Albany.  After finishing her degree and having three girls, Ilze started performing basketball shows full-time year round.

Ilze has performed at many half-time shows at college, NBA and WNBA games, Final Four, NBA All-Star, many school assemblies and many Christian outreach events (especially Upward Basketball leagues). Ilze has also appeared on ESPN, Ellene Degeneres and Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

HULA HOOPING with PINTO BELLA on Monday, July 18 @ 5-6pm (Ages 5-10) OR 6:30-7:30pm (Ages 10-19): To start off the program, Pinto Bella speaks about the emotional, physical, and social benefits of hula hooping, describes the different types of hula hoops and their purposes, gives a brief history of the hula hoop, and tells audiences about her own journey with the hoop. During programs for the youngest levels, Pinto starts the program by reading ‘Veda’s Victory’, a book by Allison Avalon about a shy girl learning to hula hoop and finding her place in the world. Pinto has a diverse collection of books about hula hooping for participants to look at before and after the program as well.

After some brief hula hooping instructions, demonstration, and a short performance of where Hoop Dance can take a performer, the group gets to try hula hooping themselves, while Pinto Bella walks around to give one on one instruction, trouble shooting, and help with new tricks. After the group has all had opportunities to play and hoop around, she takes some time for organized games that teach team work and communication with the hoop!

We’ll be meeting in the Kimball Library Courtyard.  In case of inclement weather this event will be held at Atkinson Academy.  Registration is required for both age groupings.  Non-residents are welcome to sign-up.
