Kimball Library News 4/27/2020

Let’s start with the obvious.  We MISS all of you and can’t wait to safely see you!
We have had a few phone calls regarding overdues, etc.  This is a good time to remind you that there are no fines being accrued during the time of closure, and if by the time of this publication we have an opening date we will still give a grace period.  As an FYI, our book and media drop is open and you may return materials that belong to Kimball Library there.  Please hold onto all Sandown or Plaistow items until their buildings physically re-open and return those there.  We promise more details about opening and new procedures once they are clearly in place.  At this time we do not have that information or date.

NEEDLE CRAFTERS: Have you been busy crafting? Whether you enjoy knitting, crocheting, rug braiding, quilting or another form of needle work we would love to see what you have been working on.  Send us a picture of your completed project pictures so we can share them on our Facebook page and website.

We have had some recently completed baby blankets knitted by Blaire McCarthy. These blankets are part of a program that our Needle Crafters group supports. They are donated to Community Crossroads an Atkinson nonprofit supporting adults and children with disabilities. The blankets are given to the infants they support after they come home from the hospital. If you would like to join us in knitting or crocheting blankets for babies please email Lois at lpowers@kimballlibrary.com.

If you are new to knitting or crocheting and are stuck on a stitch and need some help let us know as well ~ we will do our best to help remotely.

FREE STREAMING TITLES FOR TEENS: Visit https://www.audiobooksync.com to see how you can receive two titles a week on audio that are chosen for young adults.  SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Returning April 30th and continuing 13 weeks until July 29, SYNC gives participants two thematically paired audiobooks a week.

SYNC introduces a variety of audiobook experiences to teens to demonstrate that reading can be completed by listening. It is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through Sora, the student reading app from OverDrive. In advance of accessing the program, download the app from Apple or Google, to the device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

Sign-up to get notifications each week when the FREE audiobooks are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday at 12am Eastern Time when the program is running.

Please Note: Signing up for these alerts will not send you the titles. The alerts will only tell you when and where the title is available to load into the app.

DID YOU KNOW?: The Library will take your phone calls Monday-Friday from 9-5.  If by chance we are on the line with someone else, if you leave a message with your telephone number we will return your call as soon as possible.  Calls left after hours or on the weekend will be returned the next business day.

We are also available via email.  For general queries you can email staff@kimballlibrary.com.  If you specifically want tech support with streaming Hoopla, Kanopy, Overdrive, or Libby email kwatson@kimballlibrary.com or call.  If you need a library card (Atkinson residents) you can also email or call and we will set you up so you can access all the cool streaming options.

STAY TUNED: Visit our website, FaceBook page, Twitter account, Youtube or Instagram to learn about more updates and resources to come.  We miss all our face-to-face interactions with our wonderful community, but safe practice says ‘see you online.’  We have upcoming events online as well that you or your children will be able to participate in.  See you there!

ADULT CRAFT, PAINT & COLOR CHALLENGE (All Ages Welcome): This group continues to create while social distancing. We challenge you to maintain some form of normalcy and take a break from 10:30 – 12:30 on Fridays and spend some time creating at home. We may not be together physically, but just think how cool it is knowing others are creating at the same time!

Research has shown that there are many therapeutic benefits to coloring. The activity can help you to relax, de-stress, activate both logic and creativity parts of your cerebral hemisphere of the brain, and much more. Oh, and let us not forget, have some enjoyment at the same time.

Please join us virtually and send us a picture of what you have completed or are working on so we can share with others. All ages are welcome to participate in this virtual coloring session. Send your picture to staff@kimballlibrary.com. Pictures are not necessary but we love to show you off!

Once the Kimball Library is back open to the public you are welcome to join this Friday group -- just email us and we will gladly register you.

T/WEEN LIBRARY MEET-UP: We miss seeing all our t/ween patrons at the library. We were so disappointed we had to cancel our book group that we decided to host it online. But as it turns out, there’s a lot to talk about these days. So our former monthly book group is now a weekly virtual meeting.

Teens and tweens of the Kimball Library are welcome to join us in a virtual chat room every Wednesday at 5 pm. We share progress on individual artsy projects (drawing, singing, baking, writing poetry, etc.) Whatever it is, we want to see it and cheer you on. Be prepared to share 3-4 minutes of your mad skills with us during this week’s hang out!

Email Kathy at kwatson@kimballlibrary.com or Daniele at dguest@kimballlibrary.com for the link to join us. This link will not be offered publicly without an email request for privacy/security reasons.

TIME TO COMPLETE THE CENSUS: Census results affect planning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, rural education, adult education, and grants for preschool special education.

Go to this website-- https://2020census.gov
It will only take you a few minutes to be counted!  WiFi works in our parking lot if you have a device.  Parking closer to the building helps.  😊

You have the option of completing the questionnaire by phone if you are not comfortable completing it online. To begin, call 844-330-2020.
