Magic and music and more, oh my!

OUTTA THIS WORLD COSMOS MAGIC: Join magician and juggler Scott Jameson for an extraordinary performance that will have you laughing out loud and perched on the very edge of your seat.  Umbrellas will be plucked from thin air, a drawing will come to life, basketballs will be spun and juggled, and a member of the audience will unlock telekinetic abilities. This is just a magical smattering of ideas of what might happen.  You’ll need to register yourself and your family for the event on Wednesday, August 14th, at 6:30 PM.  After all, seeing is believing.

If the weather cooperates, this event will be held in the Kimball Courtyard.  Please bring blankets or lawn chairs if you wish or use our stadium seating. If the weather is rude we will sit on the floor in the meeting room if we are under the age of 50.

Register all ages.  For more information about Scott Jameson visit his website at www.scottjameson.com.

This is a ‘Universe of Stories’ summer reading event sponsored by The Friends of Kimball Library.

TIMBERLANE COMMUNITY BAND CONCERT, COOKOUT, & ICE CREAM SOCIAL:  More sweet sounds are slated to come in the courtyard!  Get these dates on your calendar ASAP and invite your friends and neighbors.

The Timberlane Community Band is a volunteer 50-piece adult concert band, led by Timberlane Regional High School Music Director, Tony DiBartolomeo. They perform at various indoor and outdoor venues in the greater area. Bring a lawn chair and blanket as outdoor seating is limited. There is limited parking, carpooling is suggested.

Beginning 4:30-5:30 on Thursday, August 15th, there will be a cookout ~ $5.00 for a burger or hot dog, chips and a drink!  Next up from 5:30-6:00 The Atkinson Recreation will be offering free ice cream sundaes. Then kick back and relax and 6:00 PM to hear the wonderful band tunes!

*This event is sponsored by the Atkinson Recreation, Atkinson Elder Services and Atkinson Lions Club. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, instead of the Timberlane Jazz Band so cross  your fingers for the good stuff and you won’t want to miss either band.

TIMBERLANE COMMUNITY JAZZ BAND: Join us for a cookout and jazz music on Wednesday, August 22nd, to hear acoustically perfect jazzy sounds coming from the courtyard.  Slated from 5:00-6:00 is a cookout ($5.00 for a burger/hot dog, chips, cookie/brownie, and a drink).  Proceeds benefit the Timberlane Community Music Association (TCMA). You can pre-pay at the Timberlane Community Concert Band performance the week before (August 15th) or you can purchase a ticket the night of the Jazz Band event (August 22nd).  Concert begins sharply at 6 pm.

The group will perform favorite big band tunes from the past and present. Bring a blanket or lawn chair or use the limited seating on the courtyard hillside. Watch the weather and the kimballlibrary.com website for cancellations in the event of inclement weather.

PRESCHOOL CAMPS: Preschool camps run until the end of the third week in progress.  Even if you have not joined us earlier in the summer, you may cash in on the last few weeks.  Register in person, online, or over the phone.  Mother Goose, Bitty Books, and Kiddie Lit adventures are here for your littles.

A UNIVERSE OF CONSTELLATIONS:  What is your favorite constellation? Do you know the ones you can spot from our place on the planet?  Register (grades K-5) to learn some stories, names, and facts about the most popular constellations and then use your matching skills to identify the correct ones in our constellation viewers!

Join us from 6:30-7:30 PM for science, stars and maybe a surprise or two as well!  This is Ms. Michelle’s last program on August 5th, so please sign up, or if you are not in the correct age bracket stop in to say goodbye and wish her well.

STELLAR SWEETS: Did you know that chocolate has been a part of every Russian and American space voyage?  Did you know that astronauts recently did some experiments with chocolate to see if microgravity allowed for finer mixing of the ingredients?  T/weens will soon know this and more by joining Mike Cross (Department of Natural Sciences at Northern Essex Community College) as we explore the DELICIOUS topic of chocolate, a stellar sweet!

Admission requires each t/ween to bring one type of ‘dipper’ for the chocolate fountain in quantities of 15 or more. Example of dippers—-marshmallows, hulled strawberries, bite-sized fruits like cantaloupe or honey dew melon, teddy grahams, oreos, nilla wafers, sponge cake, granola bars,  biscotti, rice krispie treats, grapes, lady fingers, and orange segments.  USE YOUR IMAGINATION.  Please remember that the item you bring should be in dipping size before you arrive.  Thank you!

Preregistration is required and youth should be age 10 or at a minimum entering grade 5 in the fall.  This event is August 6th at 6:30-7:30 PM and only for tweens and teens in the correct age bracket.  This will be a sweet STEM experience!

PRESENTER – Mike Cross Instructor of Chemistry at Northern Essex Community College (and Atkinson resident). Before coming to Northern Essex, Mike was an instructor of chemistry and department chair at the College of Eastern Utah. Mike holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Utah where he specialized in oxidative lesions in DNA and RNA. Since most everyone loves chocolate, teens will be interested to know why it’s good for them, how much is healthy, and what kinds they should eat.  Mike’s presentations include magic tricks!

Summer reading is HALF WAY over, but this means you still have time to register, participate, and win lots of cool prizes.  Bring in youth entering kindergarten through college to get started!  Prizes and events continue until August 15th.   Shout out to the Friends of Kimball Library who have sponsored the events below and to our generous donors who helped us provide raffle prizes to reward our great readers!

PAINTING PLANET EARTH: 'Suddenly, from behind the rim of the Moon, in long, slow-motion moments of immense majesty, there emerges a sparkling blue and white jewel, a light, delicate sky-blue sphere laced with slowly swirling veils of white, rising gradually like a small pearl in a thick sea of black mystery. It takes more than a moment to fully realize this is Earth . . . home.' — Edgar Mitchell, Apollo Astronaut

Depict the beauty of our planet with water colors and construction paper. Learn some color mixing techniques, view photos and paintings of Mother Earth, and go home with your very own masterpiece.

Please register kids entering grades K-5 in the fall of 2019 for this STEAM event happening on July 29th at 6:30 PM.

OUTTA THIS WORLD BUTTONS AND BADGES: Come on in and make your own personalized buttons/badges with our brand new button machine!

Show your love of your favorite sport team or cartoon character or use clever text to personalize your gear with buttons.

Join us anytime between 6 and 7:30 on July 30th to plan, design and then operate our button machine. Bring a friend or make one here. We’ll have fun either way. Register t/weens ages 10 and up or at a minimum entering grade 5 in the fall.

OUTTA THIS WORLD ICE CREAM AND ANIMALS: Summer reading participants and their families are invited to enjoy our annual ice cream sundae extravaganza on Wednesday, July 31st, at 6:30 PM. Summer reading participants will have first dibs on the sundae line, and then other guests are welcome to join them. If you have registered or participated in ANY of the summer reading activities this means YOU.  😊

After you make your sundae … McDonny’s Farm will bring along a cool petting farm, which includes bantam chickens, assorted ducks, mini lop & rex bunnies, and a friendly goat or lamb.  All animals are between 2 – 5 months old and are kept very clean.  They are very friendly, clean and loveable for the children to enjoy.  They set up separate pens for the animals, so the kids can go inside and pat and also interact with the animals.

Visit https://www.mcdonnysfarm.com to peek at McDonny’s website.  This is a ‘Universe of Stories’ summer reading event sponsored by The Friends of Kimball Library.
Please know that ice cream is on rain or shine and we are counting on you registering each family member so we will have enough for everyone.  The animal portion will be rescheduled if the weather does not cooperate.

SUMMER CONCERT IN THE COURTYARD ~ JAY PSAROS: Boston-based singer/songwriter Jay Psaros’ songs range from mellow crooners to root rockers. Jay Psaros plays mostly original folk songs, with a few covers thrown in. Psaros considers himself a folk artist, a singer/songwriter…but says he frequently get calls to support acts so far outside his genre. Jay Psaros is a master of the acoustic and performs a mix of country, blues, folk and pop.  We’d be thrilled to have you join us on August 1st at 6 PM.

We are thrilled to have Jay Psaros, ‘Male Performer of the Year” for the 2017 New England Music Awards, perform as part of our 2019 summer concert series. Come find out why he’s been called a ‘storyteller of precision’, a ‘master guitar player’, and a musical ‘painter of beautiful, rolling images’.

*In the event of inclement weather this concert will be held indoors. Free, open to the public, and sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.
