Kimball Library News 1/9/17

It’s a new year, and there is always something NEW at Kimball Library.

NEW KidsKnit: Want to knit a bit?  Join other tween and teens ages 9-19 after school on Mondays from 2:30-4:30pm.  Wait, you don't get out of school until 3?  No worries, we are liking the idea of kids arriving at staggered times and staying for some or all of the time allotted.  We'll have two adults that know how to knit/crochet to help and one adult that is a complete novice.  She will learn along with you. You need to bring your own supplies of yarn and needles.  If you already know how to knit (or crochet) bring your project.  If you are new to the craft, bring size 8 or 9 needles and #4 weight yarn.  We'll provide a pattern for fingerless mittens to start with.

Wait, how will you get to the library? The middle school bus drops off here and the elementary bus does, too!  You need to set that up with the bus company/school as to permission, etc.  Once you get started you are welcome to keep your projects here so you don't have to tote yours back and forth.

Register ASAP.  Our first meeting will be January 30th.

NEW MOBILE HOTSPOTS: We have two tMobile hotspots you can check out for a one week loan period. These are great for second homes that don’t have internet or if you are saving your phone data plan. Simply turn them on and connect to the wifi with your phone, tablet, or laptop.  These are fast on internet speed and operate in most locations.  They have traveled to PA and back, been to Cape Cod, and have operated seamlessly in Freedom, NH.  They can handle up two 15 devices simultaneously.

The hotspots can been loaned out to members 18 and older in good standing.  To encourage prompt return, a $5 fine will be applied to each day late.  We know these will be a ‘hot’ item so we want everyone to have a turn!  Stop by and check one out.

REMINDER: For your protection, we insist that you carry a library card to present to us when you check out any items.  You can also use the Key Ring app or Red Laser app on your smart phone.  Even if you don’t have your plastic card anymore you can manually insert the numbers in these apps and it generates a usable barcode.  If you need help to do this, please stop by the circulation desk.

ADULT CRAFT, COLOR & PAINT:  Just a reminder, to join us each Fridays from 10:15 – 12:15 to dabble in painting, coloring or creative craft.  This is an open time so feel free to stay the entire time, leave early or come late.  Remember, this is a no stress event so if you only have 30 minutes to spare than spend it relaxing with a group.  Please print your own painting or craft project and we supply the space as well as a limited amount of coloring supplies.

HOLIDAY HOURS: Please note that the library will be closed on Monday, January 16th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Stock up in advance, and do remember that downloadable books from OverDrive and TumbleBooks on our website are open 24/7 every day of the week.
