Winter vacation week details continue!  We have special events for youth from babies to teenagers.  Please check the online calendar at kimballlibrary.com or http://kimballlibrary.blogspot.com/ so that you don’t miss out on registrations.

CRAZY FOR CARS: Come and play with toy cars like you never have before!  We’ll have painting with car wheels, build your own race course, and we will enjoy a WHEELY fun sensory bin. Please feel free to drive on in anytime between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm on Friday, March 1st.  Registration is appreciated but come anytime in the window of time and drive for as little or as long as you like. 
Whether you’re currently crazy about cars or your automobile enthusiasm has yet to take off, join us for this fun event.  All ages are welcome.

WHO’S GOT THE BUTTON?: Buttons, buttons, who’s got the buttons?

T/weens, this is your time to be creative and shine and put a button on it! Join us on Friday, March 1^st, between 2:30 and 4:30 PM for a fun way to personalize your back pack, jacket, locker, or sport bag. Bring a friend or two or make a new friend to chat with while being creative with your designs.
Choose to use our provided templates or make your own with cut outs from magazines and other recycled materials, or draw your own design in the circle template. Then, like magic, use our button machine to create fabulous one-of-a-kind buttons.

T/weens can expect to make 2-5 buttons each. Open to teens in grades 5 and up. Please come by anytime in the 2-hour block. Thank you for registering for this hip and creative activity!

KUNG FU/LION DANCE with CHRIS FAZZIO: Clear your calendar for Saturday, March 2^nd, at 10:30 AM to make way for another fun and amazing event with Chris Fazzio!

Chris will be teaching an introduction to Kung Fu focusing on two main style of Kung Fu; Longfist and White Crane.  Students would learn how they are similar and how they are different. 

Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune. There will be a short Lion Dance workshop to show some of the basic steps involved in doing a Lion Dance.  At the finish there will be time to have the ever-popular photo op with the Lion.

Please register youth in grades 1-5.  Parents may watch the demonstration by sitting in the parameter chairs.

UPCOMING TUESDAY MOVIES: February 26: Ralph Breaks the Internet, March 5: Green Book, March 12: The Hate U Give.  Free popcorn!  Movies start at 1 PM.  Please note that titles are subject to change.  Check the library website for current information on the day of the film.

SUBZERO NITROGEN FAMILY STEM EVENT: By demonstrating how liquid nitrogen can be used to freeze fresh ingredients into fresh ice cream, we keep the children amused, and give them a lesson on the properties of liquid nitrogen, gas laws, and the application of science to food.  SubZero Nitrogen staff from Nashua, NH will be our teachers. Each registrant will receive ice cream at the end of the program.

The science behind this event is for youth in kindergarten and up and their parents or grandparents.  Because this is a 'family' event, we ask that adults come accompanied by a child in kindergarten through high school. We do have other ice cream events throughout the year, but this is educational as well as delicious.

Please, this is paid for by the Library by the serving, so only register if you are sure you are coming so we don't squander funds or take a place from someone else.  Registration is limited.  When is this STEM program taking place?  We are hosting on Wednesday, February 27^th, at 6:30 PM.  Sign-ups are available starting now.

S.T.E.M. TOYS: Tech it out with ages 3 & up for a window of STEM toys on Thursday, February 28^th, between 10:30 and 2:30 PM.  Join us for some time exploring with our wide array of building toys. Whether you're a pro at science, technology, engineering and math or you are just being introduced, you'll love expanding your brain power with our magnetic tiles, brain flakes, KEVA planks and marble runs.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are increasingly a focus in school and careers.  Using these toys at any age can expand curiosity and interest.  (Shhh, sometimes we have to pull the parents away to let the littles enjoy the ‘toys.” ;)

Anyone under 3 must be supervised by an adult in the room at all times due to small objects (marbles) as potential choking hazards.  Register in advance, and then drop in anytime between 10:30 and 2:30 to enjoy these STEM toys!

THE ART OF ORIGAMI: Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.  Feel like having a creative time? Come join us as we make several paper things to create and take home. Perfect for a cold winter's day!

This activity is open to kindergarten through grade 5 and adults are certainly welcome to stay and help their young children folding the paper. Please register in advance for the art of paper folding on Thursday, February 28^th starting at 4:00 PM.

NH BOATING SAFETY COURSE: The New Hampshire Classroom Course covers a variety of topics including boat navigation, boating safety equipment, invasive aquatic species and laws and rules. This instructor-led class incorporates a range of learning methods consisting of lecture, videos, and student discussion.  Register for this course through the NH Marine Patrol at https://register-ed.com/programs/newhampshire/174

Upon successful completion of the course, students will leave with a boating certificate which is valid for 45 days. The permanent certificate card will be automatically mailed to the student's address entered at the time of registration. Students may register and take the course at 15 years old, although a boating education certificate will not be issued until their 16th birthday.

The next upcoming course is March 5 (part 1) and March 7 (part 2) from 6-9:30 PM each night. To receive certification, participants must attend both sessions. Happy boating!
