Kimball Library News 7/17/12

**NEW** at Kimball Library is Mah Jong on alternate Mondays from 1-4:30pm! Whether you are a novice or an experienced Mah Jong player, come join the fun! We have someone who is willing to teach you to play if you never have had the experience. Cozy up in the Game Room of the library, share some laughs, and make some new friends. All experience levels are welcome. Feel free to bring a beverage with you.

Mah Jong is a fun rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards. There are a couple of different versions of Mah Jong - Chinese Mah Jong and American Mah Jong. We will be playing American Mah Jong and will be following the rules for American Mah Jong. One of the main differences is that American Mah Jong uses a card of Standard Hands, against which all games are played. These cards are distributed by the National Maj Jong League and changed annually. We will have these cards on hand for all to use.

We hope this will bring some people in the community together for a fun filled afternoon. The leaders will teach anyone who wants to learn. It does require some strategy as well as some luck to play. A small amount of time and effort is needed to become familiar with the principles of the game and the rules of the game. Registration is required so we’ll know how many tables to prepare. Please sign up online or give us a call. The following Mondays are ready for registration: July 23, August 6, August 20, September 10, and September 24.

**NEW**at Kimball Library is ‘Come Dance with Us’ on Thursday, August 2, from 6:00-8:00pm. Come ‘Dance With Us’ and learn some of the dances you see on the popular TV show ‘Dancing With the Stars’. Dancers from the Krystal Ballroom Dance Studio will be here to demonstrate and teach dances like the Cha Cha, Rumba, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango Salsa, Swing Samba, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz and some popular Line Dances. Bring your dancing shoes and join us for a fun free night of dancing!

**There will be a 30 minute intermission where summer reading raffle prizes will be drawn or distributed at 6:30pm. This is what is new -- we are mixing up how we end our summer reading program. Everyone is welcome to attend—raffle prizes are only for summer reading participants. Ice cream sundaes will be on the menu as is our tradition. Hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks will also be served. This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For more information on the Krystal Ball Room Dance Studio go to www.krystalballroom.com
