Kimball Library News 5/25/2020

Want to gear up for some fun and entertaining happenings with the Kimball Library this summer?  Just check out some of our upcoming events.

VIRTUAL SUMMER CONCERT: Bennett and Perkins will be entertaining us through Youtube live on Thursday, June 4 at 6:00.  Sign up to attend this concert and the link and password to this live performance will be emailed to you.  Register online at www.kimballlibrary.com or contact us at 603-362-5234 and we will gladly register you over the phone. Bennett and Perkins’s music is becoming a fixture on the regional acoustic music scene and is frequently featured on New Hampshire Public Radio’s Kate McNally's Folk Show.  The pair performs an eclectic blend of both original music and their own arrangements of a wide variety of works by songwriters around the world. They perform genres ranging from Americana, Singer/Songwriter, Roots, Bluegrass, and Blues.

TAKE OUT AT YOUR LIBRARY: It’s live and really popular!  If you are interested in particular titles, call us with your library card in hand. If they are available here at Kimball, we will retrieve them and check them out to you. Tell us when you’re on your way between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM and we’ll have the titles ready and waiting for you. Open the front door and you’ll find a table immediately adjacent to it with your materials on it. You won’t enter the building and there will be no physical contact with the staff.

You are also welcome to place reserves yourself 24/7 through the catalog for Kimball items only. We will pull them the next morning and every hour after that. All you need to do is call us with your library card and let us know when you are on your way.

Please return Kimball materials via the book drops at the side of the building; we cannot accept returns at the front door. After checking them in, they will be quarantined for 4 days.

LIVE STREAM MAGIC: The summer reading kick-off show will be magical and virtual!  Be ready to be wowed by Peter Boie on Wednesday, June 17th, at 5 PM. Peter has been performing magic for 26 years and has undertaken a new challenge: bringing a magic show to you without ever leaving home, office or school. He has performed in person at Kimball Library in recent years, and this year will be a unique experience. You can watch and interact on any smartphone, tablet or computer with internet access. Just paste the URL provided into your web browser, sit back and enjoy the show. Or join in the chat room and talk to others watching the show and to Peter!  Register for the show and you will be provided with the URL and ‘magical’ password.

Peter will check in on the chat room to interact with viewers during the show. Also a lucky few will be able to FaceTime or Skype Peter live during the stream and participate in a magic trick. Every guest will be able to participate and have magic happen in their own minds and hands!

Peter will also be available for a live Q & A after the show. He can also teach us a magic trick that we can do!

Kimball Library News 5/11/2020

We have been waiting to say this for so long… curbside is coming, curbside is coming, curbside is coming!  (Picture us riding horses up and down the lane and shouting!)

With the Governor’s recent easing of the stay at home order for certain businesses, we are able to offer access to the library’s collections again as of May 18, 2020. Welcome to ‘Take Out’ at Your Library!

It’s also time to begin to return items you may have had out when the Library closed. Please return Kimball materials via the book drops at the side of the building; we cannot accept returns at the front door. After checking them in, they will be quarantined for 4 days. Fines will not be charged during the month of May.

TOWN WIDE BEAUTIFICATION WEEK: The Town of Atkinson Departments of Recreation, Kimball Library and Highway Department are joining hands (virtually and washed!) for TOWN WIDE BEAUTIFICATION WEEK. Let’s clean up our streets! This good clean fun is happening from May 15 to May 23. Pick a convenient day and time your family can participate.

Pick up free gloves and garbage bags from Kimball Library outside the library building entrance between 9 to 5 on Friday, May 15 and Monday, May 18 through to Friday, May 22. (Please note there is no pickup on Saturday or Sunday.)

Clean up your neighborhood streets, parks, main roads (East Road, Maple Avenue, Sawyer Avenue, etc).
Leave all the garbage bags on the curbside then contact Recreation Department commrec@atkinson-nh.gov or 603 362-5531 for the location where you worked on. Our Highway Department will be picking up trash bags during the week. Thank you for keeping our town beautiful!

THINKING OF YOU: Outside the library building entrance please find a shelf of “Thinking of You Books”.  We are sorry if it rains.  Even if the books are in shelter, the pages warp so we can’t leave them out.

These books (Adults and Youth Services collections) are offered freely to you during the time that we are closed. Please take and enjoy!

IN EXCHANGE, WE ASK:  Please do not return these books. Do not place them in the book drop when you are finished reading. Do not donate them back to the library. Do not donate them once we resume taking future book donations.  Currently, as a reminder, we are not accepting donations of any kind.

STAY TUNED: Visit our website, FaceBook page, Twitter account, Youtube or Instagram to learn about more updates and resources to come.  We miss all our face-to-face interactions with our wonderful community, but safe practice says ‘see you online.’  We have upcoming events online as well that you or your children will be able to participate in.  See you there!
