Please take notice that our preschool opportunities (Mother Goose on the Loose, Bitty Books, Kiddie Lit, Sensory Story Time, and Discovering STEAM classes) all take a brief intermission the week of Christmas and New Year’s.  Your registration is intact and other than STEAM (6 week sessions), there is no need to register again.  Most all classes are still taking new registrations so if Junior had a birthday and is now eligible for another class then don’t hesitate to sign up.

LAUGHTER YOGA: Did you know that laughing is good for your health?
In this fun session, we'll provide playful group exercises and deep breathing to promote wellness, happiness and lots of laughter. We'll move our bodies, use our imaginations to act out comical situations and of course, we will purposely do lots of laughing.

Let your laughter out! Give your giggles to the group! Please register all interested youth in grades K-5 for this joyful event on Saturday, December 22nd at 11 AM.

HEALTHY COOKBOOK CLUB: Do you enjoy cooking and trying new recipes? If so, why not join our Healthy Cookbook Club that meets the 3rd Monday of each month. The club chooses a different healthy cookbook to dive into for the month. Members check out a copy of the cookbook and spend time trying out the various recipes at home. When the group gathers the next month, we discuss the health benefits of the various recipes and share opinions of the meals tried. In addition, participants prepare and bring a sample of a recipe from the cookbook to share with the group.

On Monday, December 17th at 6:30 PM, we will discuss, try and compare holiday recipes from an assortment of healthy cooking magazines available at the library both on the shelves and through Hoopla.  Register so we know how many participants will be joining us for this delicious program.

BOOKCLUBS for KIDS in Grades 1-4: Join us for an adventurous book club for kids in 1st and 2nd grade! Each month we will discuss a book from the popular 'Magic Tree House' Series by Mary Pope Osborne. We'll challenge each other with quiz- show-style games, discuss our favorite and least favorite parts, participate in activities and maybe a craft that connect to the time and place that Jack and Annie, the main characters, visit in the story.

Whether you have no experience with Magic Tree House books or you've read them each a thousand times, you'll discover new things about the stories, history, culture, and even yourself in our time together.

Please make sure to have read the book before attending book club. December's book we will be discussing is #12: Polar Bears Past Bedtime on Wednesday, December 19th at 4 PM.

Kimball Library News 11/12/18

Interested in creating a new holiday tradition, having some fun with a friend or just looking to express yourself in an edible and creative way? Then Kimball Library is the place to be on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00-8pm for gingerbread house decorating.  Joanne Fiore from Atkinson Farmhouse will provide the homemade gingerbread, instructions, and all the traditional favorite candies to decorate a holiday gingerbread house (a gingerbread house is part dessert and part centerpiece).  Engage your imagination and creativity by creating your own holiday centerpiece gingerbread house.

Reservations in advance are required and space is limited. A materials cost of $42.00 per gingerbread house is due at time of registration.  Please sign up at the circulation desk or call the library for more information at (603-362-5234).  Because of limited space there is a three person limit per each house and at least one participating adult required for each group.

About Joanne Fiore: Joanne is the owner of Atkinson Farmhouse, and has over 20 years of experience in floral design, garden design, event planning, baking and teaching a variety of workshops for adults and children.

Ms. Fiore’s designs have been showcased at events at many top venues in Boston such as the Copley Square Hotel and the State Room and her Christmas bows have adorned the historic Massachusetts State House. Her floral arrangements have been featured in magazines and she has been on talk radio for her plant advice.

Prior to opening Atkinson Farmhouse in August 2018, Joanne owned Andover Flower Farm for 18 years and developed a loyal following for her custom wreaths, planters, container designs and floral arrangements.

Joanne teaches seasonal workshops in gingerbread house decorating, floral arrangements, container gardens and wreath design. She has a passion for baking and enjoys hosting children’s events such as birthday parties, pumpkin decorating and cookie decorating. Ms. Fiore resides in Atkinson, NH with her husband Steven.

MONTHLY CHILDREN’S ROOM OPPORTUNITIES: Take note that we offer Reader’s Theater (grades 2-5), Family Zumba (ages 4 and up), Brown Bag Book Club (grades 3-4), and Magic Tree House Book Club (grades 1-2) on a monthly basis.  Please sign up online or give us a call and ask for the youth department with your queries. In addition to these regularly occurring programs, we have pop up events that happen throughout the year. Visit our website or come into the children’s room to see what upcoming events would be most interesting to you!

CRAFTING REMINDERS: As the holiday season approaches you may want to ‘get away from it all’ and spend time creating some unique items such as a holiday boxwood tree (Monday, November 26) or holiday greeting and thank you cards (Thursday, November 29).  Both opportunities are from 6-8 PM and require registration and fees paid in advance.  Please come by or call for more information.

HOLIDAY CLOSING: Please note that we will be closed on Thursday, November 22nd (Happy Thanksgiving!) and Friday, November 23rd.  We are open as always on the Saturday following from 10-3.  We are thankful for our wonderful patrons and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
