THE MAKING OF STRAWBERY BANKE:  Join us on Tuesday, May 12, from 6:30-8pm to explore the history Strawbery Banke.  Local legend says Strawbery Banke Museum began when a Portsmouth librarian gave a rousing speech in 1957. The backstory, however, is richly complex. This is a dramatic tale of economics, urban renewal, immigration, and historic architecture in New Hampshire’s only seaport. J. Dennis Robinson, author of an award-winning 'biography” of the 10-acre Strawbery Banke campus, shares the history of 'America’s oldest neighborhood.” Tapping into private letters, unpublished records, and personal interviews, Robinson explores the politics of preservation. Using colorful and historic illustrations, the author looks candidly at mistakes made and lessons learned in this grassroots success story.

J. Dennis Robinson has published over 1,000 articles on New Hampshire history and culture. His books for young readers include biographies of Jesse James and Lord Baltimore. His hardcover histories of Strawbery Banke Museum and historic Wentworth by the Sea Hotel both received honors from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH). His two most recent books on privateering and the War of 1812 appeared in 2011. Robinson is also editor of SeacoastNH.com, a Web site about NH history and culture that attracts thousands of visitors daily. His lectures are designed to make history both entertaining and accessible to all audiences.

This program sponsored is by the NH Humanities Council and the Friends of the Kimball Library.  Refreshments will be served.

‘ULTIMATE LEGO CHALLENGE’ (Grades 1-5): Join us on Thursday, April 30, 6:30pm-7:30pm:   to participate in the ultimate Lego challenge.  We’ll build each challenge individually and then spend the second half of the evening building a group project.
Why use LEGOs?  LEGO provides a unique building system that encourages children to give form and expression to their own imagination. The system offers endless possibilities but at the same time, not anything goes! The bricks have a “mind of their own”, that the child learns to compose with to achieve their creations.  They are fun play materials that let you create at different levels and you can continually add to each creation.  Children can build whatever is in their imagination and bring it to life through play.  The children can build on their own ideas by seeing what others make for each challenge.  Play and learn with us on April 30th!

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ROBERT FROST: The Robert Frost Farm in Derry, NH was home to Robert Frost and his family from 1900-1911. Frost, one of the nation’s most acclaimed poets whose writings are said to be the epitome of New England, attributed many of his poems to memories from the Derry years.
Mr. Reusch was a Haverhill middle school teacher for over 40 years teaching the early history of Haverhill, John Greenleaf Whitttier, Robert Frost, and Norman Rockwell.  He teaches Life-Long Learning classes at Northern Essex Community College and gives presentations throughout the Merrimack Valley.

Mr. Reusch was named Curator of the Whittier Birthplace six years ago.  He gives tours of Whittier’s Birthplace (Haverhill, MA) to local visitors and visitors from many parts of the world.
Join us for this lovely event sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library on Tuesday, May 5, from 6:30-8:00pm.  Refreshments will be served.
