Kimball Library News 6/22/2020

The announcement that we have all been waiting for…

KIMBALL LIBRARY REOPENING PLAN: We are happy to announce that the Kimball Library will reopen to the public on Monday, July 6th!

Our first priority is your safety and that of the staff. Therefore, strict social distancing and masks will be required of the 20 adults who can visit the Library at one time. Admittance will be based on a token system. A visiting adult will take 1 of 20 tokens on their way inside the building and return it when leaving; if all the tokens are taken, the 21st visitor is welcome to wait on a bench inside the lobby until someone leaves. For now, Take Out service will continue.

The Library will return to its original schedule: Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. The Children’s Room will be open for browsing; all borrowing will take place at the Main Desk. Returns must be placed in the drops so that they can be quarantined.
The large Meeting Room will not be available at this time. However, the Conference and Study Room will be open for groups of 4 and 2 respectively. In order to preserve social distancing, programs will continue to be virtual and staff will be positioned 6 feet away from visitors.

We have missed you! We are stocked with many new and exciting materials and are looking forward to opening our doors again.

SUMMER VIRTUAL CONCERTS: Relax and sit back from the comfort of your own home, deck, patio, etc. and enjoy the 2020 Virtual Summer Concert Series. The next concert in the series is taking place on July 9 at 6:00 PM.  It is a Country Music Duo - Martin and Kelly.
The incredibly talented duo of Jilly Martin and Ryan Brooks Kelly have become the next must-see act from New England to Nashville. Over the years, they’ve been featured as support acts for many traditional, and mainstream country artists.

Standouts in today’s crossover country music scene, Martin and Kelly’s songs bridge the boundary between traditional and new country. They’ve made their mark with highly-acclaimed original music and are winning over audiences each time they perform. With compelling song-writing, dynamic vocal harmonies and stunning musicianship Martin and Kelly are poised for a breakthrough in the music industry. We encourage you to register to attend this Facebook Live event.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.

Do you find yourself fantasizing about working remotely, but you’re just not sure how to do that or where to start? Worried about what is next during this time of COVID-19 layoffs and changes in hiring? Join us for this 60-minute webinar, hosted by Krystal Hicks, Career Strategist and Founder of JOBTALK, to learn more about: How to approach this type of transition from traditional, on-site work environments, which industries are emerging as leaders in the remote work space, what job boards and resources are best for this type of search, and how to ensure your LinkedIn profile is (confidentially) working in your favor to ensure recruiters seeking remote employees can find you…
In 2017, Krystal Hicks was recognized as one of the Seacoast’s '10 to Watch' winners; a NH-based contest that recognizes young professionals who are active in the community and working towards economic development in the Seacoast.  She currently resides in Portsmouth and continues to teach her course, 'College to Career: How to stand out in today’s job market” to undergraduate business students at UNH.

They will receive lots of encouragement. Please sign up for each week separately.

PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE (ZOOM) WITH EVA MCDERMOTT: Are you interested in expanding your photography skills? Sign up for this four-week session program designed to help you build your confidence in creating and capturing great photographic images using a DSLR or advanced mirrorless camera. Registration is Required: You will receive a private Zoom link and password.

‘IMAGINE YOUR STORY SUMMER READING CLUB’: We bet you didn’t IMAGINE that so much of your school and summer would be virtual!  No worries, we can sprinkle fairy dust into your life as you partner up with your library.

This year we’ll be rolling out events only a few weeks at a time so please keep your eye on the youth summer reading pages.  Those pages are on our website under CHILDREN’S SERVICES or T/WEENS drop-down menu, and new events and programs will be listed there.

Youth entering middle, high school or college will receive a $5 fine credit just for signing up for summer reading. Use it to pay down your library fines or receive future fine credit.  Registration is rolling throughout June & July. Sign up early for more time to participate and gain more possibilities of being ‘fairy’d’.

FAIRY, FAIRIES, FAIRY’D?? In light of all things magical, each registrant is guaranteed at least one visit from a fairy. We will leave your gift at your front door. Social distance all the way. The more you participate in the Library by checking items out or being in our events/programs the more likely you are to receive multiple visits. We refer to your participation as getting your ‘WINGS’.  More wings, more fairy visits!
Let the magic begin by REGISTERING ASAP!
