Kimball Library News 6/1/2020

Take Out at Your Library is ongoing and Imagine Your Story summer reading registration is officially off and running!  Don’t snooze away your summer and miss out on all the great new available titles and events.

SUMMER READING REGISTRATION: Summer reading registration is live and active for grades K-12 right on the website. We will have unique virtual programs and magical things up our sleeves for the month of June, and July will be a whole new fairy crop!  Get ready to ‘Imagine Your Story’ with us and may the fairy dusting begin!  We also have a new touchless way to keep track of your reading that will be available, but certainly not required.  As soon as you sign up we’ll give you all the details.  Let the magic of summer reading commence!

‘IMAGINE YOUR STORY SUMMER READING CLUB’: We bet you didn’t IMAGINE that so much of your school and summer would be virtual!  No worries, we can sprinkle fairy dust into your life as you partner up with your library.

This year we’ll be rolling out events only a few weeks at a time so please keep your eye on the youth summer reading pages.  Those pages are on our website under CHILDREN’S SERVICES or T/WEENS drop-down menu, and new events and programs will be listed there.

Youth entering middle, high school or college will receive a $5 fine credit just for signing up for summer reading. Use it to pay down your library fines or receive future fine credit.  Registration is rolling throughout June & July. Sign up early for more time to participate and gain more possibilities of being ‘fairy’d’.

FAIRY, FAIRIES, FAIRY’D?? In light of all things magical, each registrant is guaranteed at least one visit from a fairy. We will leave your gift at your front door. Social distance all the way. The more you participate in the Library by checking items out or being in our events/programs the more likely you are to receive multiple visits. We refer to your participation as getting your ‘WINGS’.  More wings, more fairy visits!
Let the magic begin by REGISTERING ASAP!

MINI MOTHER GOOSE ON THE LOOSE: Are those babies, toddlers, and young preschoolers missing “Mother Goose on the Loose?” Miss Kathy has some mini (shortened) versions available on YouTube.  We are so thankful we have already received some videos of the little ones joining in with rhymes, animal sounds, and saying their name during the drum roll call!  Want to know more?  Search up our Kimball Library Youtube channel, or and check out the Mini Mother Goose playlist.

LIVE STREAM MAGIC: The summer reading kick-off show will be magical and virtual!  Be ready to be wowed by Peter Boie on Wednesday, June 17th, at 5 PM. Peter has been performing magic for 26 years and has undertaken a new challenge: bringing a magic show to you without ever leaving home, office or school. He has performed in person at Kimball Library in recent years, and this year will be a unique experience. You can watch and interact on any smartphone, tablet or computer with internet access. Just paste the URL provided into your web browser, sit back and enjoy the show. Or join in the chat room and talk to others watching the show and to Peter!  Register for the show and you will be provided with the URL and ‘magical’ password.

Peter will check in on the chat room to interact with viewers during the show. Also a lucky few will be able to FaceTime or Skype Peter live during the stream and participate in a magic trick. Every guest will be able to participate and have magic happen in their own minds and hands!

Peter will also be available for a live Q & A after the show. He can also teach us a magic trick that we can do!  Bring a deck of cards to this virtual event.

STAY TUNED: Visit our website, FaceBook page, Twitter account, Youtube or Instagram to learn about more updates and resources to come.  We miss all our face-to-face interactions with our wonderful community, but safe practice says ‘see you online.’  We have upcoming events online as well that you or your children will be able to participate in.  See you there!
