Kimball Library News 10/26/10

Children’s Librarian, Carolyn Birr, will don her chef’s hat once again and teach the second “Kids’ Cooking” class on Wednesday, November 10, from 4-5pm. Once again we are asking the thought provoking questions, “Do you like to cook?” or “Do you like to eat?” If you can answer ‘YES’ to either of those two questions and are in grades 3-5, then this is just the class for you. Spaces in the class are limited and you need to register so can secure your seat. The October class whipped up some lovely crepes, so the staff is wondering what yummy smells will be wafting in from the Children’s Room. Attend the program and experience it for yourself, and make it even merrier by gathering up some of your friends to register with you.

New Hampshire Photographer Paul Wainwright’s new book, A Space for Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England has been selected as one of five finalists in the nonfiction category for the 2010 New England Book Awards. The Atkinson resident and local artist will be here on Thursday, November 18, at 7pm to deliver a special presentation on his latest release. “A Space for Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England is a collection of Wainwright’s classic black and white photographs that paints a composite portrait of these once ubiquitous landmarks of the New England landscape. Only a few remain as they were – touched only by time – and Wainwright’s photographs give us a glimpse into an age when life was simpler.” We think it’s simple—mark the date and time and join us for the evening. Better yet, bring a friend or two. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and autographs.

Please note that the Kimball Library will be closed on Thursday, November 11th, in recognition of Veterans Day. We will resume regular hours on Friday the 12th from 10-8. And for those who long range planners, we’ll be closed Thursday, November 25 and Friday November 26 for a Thanksgiving hiatus. Regular hours will resume on Saturday the 27th from 10-3.
