Kimball Library News 9/8/14

NEW SESSION of MOTHER GOOSE added on Thursdays at 10:30:  Welcome to Mother Goose on the Loose, a fun-filled thirty minute interactive session that uses rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments, and more to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers.

Please register online or give us a call.   You may join mid-session.  Please note we also have a few available slots in our Monday 10:30am class.  These classes, Monday and *Thursday, are identical except the Thursday class will have more days when we do not meet.  Choose only one to register for.  Please feel welcome to stay after the session to allow for playtime and socializing for all ages.

WHY READ TO BABY?
• Phonological awareness — Being able to hear the beginning and ending sounds that make up words will help children sound out words when they begin to read
• Print motivation — Children who enjoy books and reading will be curious about how to read and will read more
• Print awareness — Children become familiar with how books work
• Vocabulary — Children need to know the meaning of words to understand what they are reading
*We are temporarily trying out this new session of Mother Goose on Thursdays until the end of December.

This class will only be able to meet 2 or 3 times per month.  Check the calendar for registration or details.  Call and ask for Kathy Watson, Youth Services Director, for questions regarding this class.  603 362-5234

FALL BOOK & BAKE SALE: Do you have Saturday, September 27, marked off in your date book?  It’s time for the Fall Book Sale from 8am-3pm!  In conjunction with the Town-wide Yard Sale we offer a myriad of books, music, DVDs, and audio books at great discount prices.  This is a great day to see friends from town and collect some items at an advantageous price as well.  Bargain shoppers and browsers will enjoy a chance to look leisurely through our numerous sale items and bump into some familiar faces.  We’ll be here rain or shine, so follow the signs to Kimball Library in Atkinson where old-fashioned values are never out of style.  Hint: Early birds get to choose from some of the best pickings!

DABBLERS: Beginners, intermediate or advanced painters are welcome to join our group of Dabblers.  Bring your projects and paint supplies to work along with our informal and friendly art enthusiasts or we will help start anyone wishing to begin watercolor, oils, acrylic or drawing.  This lovely group meets on Thursdays from 10:15-11:30.  No registration necessary and non-residents are welcome.

For more information or a list of upcoming programs, please visit our website at kimballlibrary.com, call (603) 362-5234, or email us at staff@kimballlibrary.com.  We also have some great pictures our facebook page.
