Kimball Library News 5/2/16

Drop by and take a look at our local talent hanging in our meeting room. Jackie Cunningham’s oil painting class is up for viewing on our walls. Ms. Cunningham is proudly featuring works by her students exhibiting beautiful landscapes and still life. The show runs through mid May. A ‘meet and greet’ reception will be held on Friday, May 13th from 6:00 – 7:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. If you missed it the last time around, this is your opportunity.  All are welcome to come enjoy the views and encourage the artists.
Featured artists of the class are:  Linda Balut, Linda Bourassa, Cynthia Buchan, Dorothy Kantola, and Janet Porter. For questions about the exhibit please contact Jackie at 603 401-2779.

SUMMER READING REGISTRATION IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER: We are excited to announce that summer reading registration will be open starting June 1st.  The annual summer reading program is a 6-8 week series of events to promote reading through the summer months with fun events and activities around a main theme decided by CSLP. This year’s theme for grades K-5 is “On Your Mark, Get Set… READ!”  The theme for grades 6 and up is “Get in the Game - READ”.  The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a consortium of states working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children, teens, and adults at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries.

Register your children and teens to participate in the program and they earn a chance to win some of our fantastic prizes.  Even the babies have an early literacy calendar so they can be in on the fun and learning. Here are a few benefits of summer reading programming for children:  Children are motivated to read. Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library. Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.  Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery.   Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.  Having high levels of literacy are needed for higher education and future employment and most standardized tests that teenagers will take include a reading comprehension portion. Moreover, we delight in the idea that children and teens who stay with the library tend to continue to be library participants in the future.

Registration opens on June 1st and will remain open until the end of July.  Our kick-off will be on June 15th (more on that next week) and our finale will be on August 4th.

HOLIDAY HOURS: We will be closed Memorial Day weekend in its entirety (May 28-30).  Please stock up accordingly.
