Kimball Library News 3/6/17

Do you enjoy checking out cookbooks and trying new recipes? If so, why not join us for our new Healthy Cookbook Club?  Our first meeting will be held on Monday, March 20th at 6:30.  At this initial meeting you will have the chance to meet and greet our Healthy Cookbook Club facilitator, Karen DiPietro, a registered dietitian.  Each month a different healthy cookbook will be selected and participants will be able to check out a copy and spend time trying out the various recipes at home. When the group gathers the next month, Karen will discuss the health benefits of the various recipes and participants can share their opinions of the meals they tried.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity to select, prepare and bring a sample of the recipe to share with the group.

Register so we know how many cookbooks to have on hand for the first meeting of this healthy and yummy club.

About Karen:  Karen DiPietro, RDN, CDE is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at Ellen Byron and Associates in Haverhill, MA where she provides individual nutrition counseling and diabetes education.  Karen also facilitates after school nutrition and cooking programs for Kids Test Kitchen.  She established a nationally accredited diabetes education program and has facilitated diabetes education and support groups in many communities.   Karen is passionate about helping people eat healthier by tailoring eating strategies to individual preferences and lifestyle, leading to sustainable changes in eating behavior.  She believes people need to stop restrictive diets and focus on quality food and home-cooked meals.  To that end, she is interested in providing practical, hands-on nutrition education through cooking classes, food demonstrations, supermarket tours and cookbook clubs.   She lives in Haverhill with her husband and 14-year old dachshund, and has two grown sons.  Karen is excited about facilitating her first Healthy Cookbook Club.

TEEN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: If you are in grades 6-12 you can nurture a new or non-reader. You’ll have a little buddy to read and play games with. You'll read together for 30 minutes and do crafts we prepare or play games we provide for 30 minutes. This will happen on 6 consecutive Wednesdays from 4-5pm for our Library Buddies program starting March 15th and going through April 19th.

Receive community service hours for your time!  This is a 6 week commitment unless other arrangements are made.  Talk to Kathy Watson, Director of Youth Services.  Residents take priority.

Questions? Contact Kathy Watson at kwatson@kimballlibrary.com or call the library and ask to talk to her.  Please note that the middle school and high school buses (Bus 126) do drop off here at 2:30.  Check with the bus policy and school regarding this arrangement.
