Kimball Library News 6/5/17

Summer reading registration is in full swing!  Make sure your child or teen has registered for the entire program as well as many of the exciting events coming up.  We can’t build a better world without you, so COME.

Reminders of events coming up in the next two weeks—Jungle Jim’s Minecraft Madness, Build an Automated Robot, Build a Magic Carpet, Yo-Yo People, Build a Yo-Yo Master, Build a Masterpiece, and Build a Marble Run.  PHEW!  If you see something that intrigues you then jump on our online calendar for details or call the youth department at the library for a detailed explanation.

SUMMER MOVIES: The following is a listing of upcoming films being shown in our lovely air-conditioned meeting room on an 84 inch screen. Popcorn is served at the 1:00 showings. *Movies are subject to change and updates will be posted on our website.  Coming up next are ‘Beauty and the Beast’ ~ June 13th, Rated PG, ‘A United Kingdom’ ~ June 27th, Rated PG-13, ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ ~ July 11th Rated: PG-13,  and ‘The Lost City of Z’ ~ July 25th, Rated PG-13.

‘BUILD A BETTER WORLD’ SUMMER READING MADE EASY: It cannot be any less hassle free for children and parents to get on board with the ‘Build a Better World’ summer reading program for youth entering grades K-5!  1. We’re counting each time you check out materials when you visit. Put your name and phone number on the ticket and drop it in the jar.  Names will be chosen weekly for prizes!  2. You will get a sticker to put on your world that will be displayed in the library. For every 5 stickers (visits with check-outs), you are able to pick a prize or a book!  3. Kids entering grade 5 register for the youth program, but may also register and attend any events listed for their age group in the t/ween program.
Do you have preschool children not entering kindergarten yet?  We have simple summer bingo cards and they can color in a space when they listen to a book by a certain author, go the park, or other simple literacy activities. They, too, can choose a book or a prize when they reach a BINGO on their card.  It’s easy to keep everyone interested in reading over the summer as to not lose any gains they made during the academic year.  Research does show that staying vested in literature over the summer will give a stronger start in the fall.

KIMBALL COURTYARD EVENTS: Up next is Jungle Jim of Boston on June 21st, The Yo-Yo People on June 27th, and Stoney’s Wicked Din on June 29th.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair, or enjoy the built-in seating on the grassy hill.  If the weather does not cooperate we hold them inside or at another location.  Fingers crossed!

All our summer reading events, concerts, and movies are free and open to the public.  Summer reading events require registration, so please check with us.
