Kimball Library News 8/14/17

The USS Constitution was in dry dock for the past two years and it was just floated again this past week.  Here at Kimball Library we now have passes to the USS Constitution Museum available!
Only yards away from “Old Ironsides,” the Museum is a “must see” for everyone visiting Boston, where interactive galleries take adults, families and children of all ages on a 200-year voyage.

You can learn how a wooden hull helped earn the nickname Old Ironsides.  Discover how “Old Ironsides” has remained undefeated since being launched in 1797.  Find out how school children contributed pennies to help save “Old Ironsides.”  See how sailors ate a diet of hardtack and grog, and climbed masts 200 feet in the air.  There is much to discover!

The USS Constitution Museum reaches out to all Americans with the story of one of our country’s most cherished icons.  Jump on our website or give us a call to reserve a pass to this museum or many of our museum passes such as Strawbery Banke, Currier Museum of Art, Imagine That!, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, John F. Kennedy, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, Seacoast Science Center, Zoo New England, or the New England Aquarium (available September to June only.)  Each pass is unique—please contact us to reserve or ask for details.

FALL STORY TIMES:  Fall story times are open for registration, and we have available seats for infants through the age of 6.  Our classes are geared toward developmental stages, so please honor the age groupings upon registration.  We are offering Mother Goose on the Loose (babies to ages 2+) on Mondays at 10:30, Bitty Books on Tuesdays at 10:15 (2+ to 3+),  Kiddie Lit (ages 3+-6) on Tuesdays at 11:30, and Kiddie Lit on Fridays (ages 3+ to 6) at 10:15 and 11:30.

MOTHER GOOSE: Infants through age 2+ with their caregivers are invited to join us for simple stories, rhymes, finger plays, and songs modeling after the Mother Goose curriculum. Please feel welcome to stay after the session to allow for playtime and socializing for all ages.

BITTY BOOKS: Children with their caregivers are invited to join us for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs, and a simple craft.  This is a story time modelled after the older classes and caregivers should be in the room to assist.

KIDDIE LIT: Crafts, music, new friends and adventures wrapped into literacy are found during these classes. Children are expected to be able to listen to more than one story and some may not need caregivers to stay and help.

If you sign up for any of the above classes, we consider you registered for the academic school year with some exceptions for holidays and such. Please send us an email or call if you cannot attend to help with our preparation. Thank you!

DISCOVERING S.T.E.A.M: We invite preschoolers who are at least 3 years old to explore nature, computers, building, art, numbers, and more in this 6 week program starting Thursdays on September 14th. Engaging stations will allow children to discover and learn at their own pace and interest level. We'll come together at the end of class for a structured story or activity that fits into the theme. On the first class, we'll hit on one of the elements of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering) with a follow up week with mathematics and art activities that build on that concept.

Watch your child's brain and interest get ignited as they discover S.T.E.A.M.!

Please note that this is a 6 week class. Pending enough interest, there will be another 6 week session offered following a 1 week break.  Register ASAP!
