Kimball Library News 8/27/18

The Town-wide Yard Sale is coming up on September 15th and we’d like to have a large selection for folks to peruse and purchase.  These items take some time to be sorted through which is why we are asking for them now.

We accept books, music, and DVDs in good condition.  Please be sure books are not moldy or damaged and that music and movies are playable the entire way through.  We do not accept any magazines, text books, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest condensed books.  Please drop off at the library by Thursday, September 13th, by 3 PM.  (We appreciate the early birds who get their donations here well before the deadline!)

When we receive your donation, we first sort through to see if we’d like to add any of the items to our collection.  If we don’t add the item(s) to our collection, we then decide if it is to be sold or to be transferred to a charitable organization.  Please take care to recycle your unwanted items by helping the environment and your local library.

Donations can be received during open hours from Monday-Friday (10-8) and Saturday (10-3).  If you have large amounts of materials, please call ahead so we can be sure to assist you.  PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN OUR BOOK DROP, FRONT DOORS, ETC.

BOOK SALE: As stated above, the semi-annual sale is on September 15th, 8 AM – 3 PM. A large selection of fiction and non-fiction books will be available as well as DVDs, audio books, and music. Most books are $2.00 or less.  The best part is that all proceeds go to adult and children’s programs offered throughout the year at the Kimball Library and is hosted by our amazing Friends of Kimball Library.  Come early for the best selection and the baked goods!  (The library is open for library business the normal Saturday hours 10-3.)

Sad you’ll miss the sale? Check out the leftover books at a discount on Monday, September 17th, from 10 until 6 or until supplies last.

BUILDING FOR BOOKS: Are you up for the challenge? Choose from the following: KEVA planks, Magformers, Brainflakes or Legos.  Choose a challenge card or create your own.  Build something magnificent.

Show us your finished product for a chance to win a book to take home! Book prizes for the best creations! Compete once, twice, or as many times as you like.

When is this fun opportunity taking place?  Come by on Saturday, the 15th, between the window of 10:30 and 2:30.  Register, please.

GWC: Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization that teaches girls computer science and programming concepts. Kimball Girls Who Code Club is being run by certified Girls Who Code instructor Pam Livingston and being assisted by Kathy Watson.
The program will take place here at the library Wednesdays promptly at 6:30 and getting out at 7:45. It does not cost anything to participate. The club will take place 3 times a month until the end of May with some additional weeks off--especially vacation weeks, meeting room conflicts, and the first Wednesdays will never be a week we meet. The expectation is that you will come unless you are ill or out of town. The lessons build weekly and to 'pass' you need to attend 80% of the meetings.

Questions? Contact Kathy Watson at kwatson@kimballlibrary.com Please be prepared to bring a laptop or have it dropped off for you. (We do have several to loan but having your own is a BIG plus.) This event is for girls in grades 5-12 only. Mature 5th graders, only, please.
Residents have preference. Email Kathy Watson to discuss your participation if you are not a Timberlane Regional School District student.  We generally do not take new participants after November.

BOOK CLUBS: We have book groups for grades 1-3, 3-4, 5-7, and grades 8-12.  We have book groups for adults both morning and evening.  Even if you don’t want to share, COME and listen, and you will enhance your understanding and enjoyment of literature.  Look at the online calendar of give us a call so we can match you to the correct group.

MORE INFO: Go to www.kimballlibrary.com to register for events or use the data bases. You may also call us Monday-Friday from 10-8 and on Saturday from 10-3 at 603.362.5234 to register with a ‘human’.
