Kimball Library News 9/13/21

Are you one of the many Americans who do not fully maximize their Social Security benefits? Knowing how and when you choose to collect Social Security benefits can be complex because it ultimately depends on your unique circumstances.  With retirees living longer today than previous generations, the choice of when to retire and collect Social Security benefits can make a significant difference in the income one can collect in retirement.

Join us on Monday, October 18th, at 1:00 PM or Thursday, October 28th, at 6:30 PM for this practical and informational workshop. Registration is required.

Andy Githmark is a Founding Partner and Wealth Manager at Steward Partners Global Advisory in Manchester.  He has been in the financial services industry since 1997 and has been a financial advisor since 2010.  Two sessions will be offered for this informative hour program on Maximizing Your Social Security with Andrew Githmark.

READERS THEATER: On October 7th at 6:00 PM, we’ll be hosting the popular Kimball Library Reader’s Theater. Register children in grades 2-5 to have a marvelous time trying out expressive reading with voices and in character. This is great fun for the dramatic reader and good practice for the reluctant readers. Scripts are handed out and parts are assigned and then the antics commence! All reading levels are welcome.

T/WEEN BOOK DISCUSSION:  The book of the month is 'Symptoms of Being Human' by Jeff Garvin. Discussion is geared for mature middle and high school t/weens.

Riley Cavanaugh is many things: Punk rock. Snarky. Rebellious. And gender fluid. Some days Riley identifies as a boy, and others as a girl. But Riley isn't exactly out yet. And between starting a new school and having a congressman father running for reelection in über-conservative Orange County, the pressure—media and otherwise—is building up in Riley's life.

On the advice of a therapist, Riley starts an anonymous blog to vent those pent-up feelings and tell the truth of what it's really like to be a gender fluid teenager. But just as Riley's starting to settle in at school—even developing feelings for a mysterious outcast—the blog goes viral, and an unnamed commenter discovers Riley's real identity, threatening exposure. And Riley must make a choice: walk away from what the blog has created—a lifeline, new friends, a cause to believe in—or stand up, come out, and risk everything.

Join the most awesome t/weens and chat with us about this book! Copies are available for the asking. Candy is served...  Mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 6th, at 6:00 PM.
