Kimball Library News 12/19/21

The case of the missing toys… SOLVED!

TOY TIME: Feeling the cabin fever? Need to get out of the house? Grab the kids and head over to the Children’s Room! We are busting out some of your favorite toys that you haven’t seen since 2020. They may only be here for a week, so act fast! (This will be vacation week—Dec 27-30.)

Here is a sample of what you can do when you arrive: Magformers, Brain Flakes, Duplos, Train Table, Keva Planks, and the kitchen set with dishes.

Registration is not required but masks are required for all ages 3 and up regardless of vaccination status.  Come when you can and leave when you must.

NEW SOFTWARE: Calendars, Room Booking, and Museum Passes—oh my! Please be patient as we all learn new things. Learning is exciting!

You may have noticed some new icons on our website and some changes in the look of the online event calendar and museum pass reservation system. Plus, new to the website is an icon for room booking *available to Atkinson non-profits. (If you want a room to study or work in as private citizens, we are sticking with the first come, first served, method.)

The new system from Assabet Interactive is straightforward, with clear and consistent directions for patrons. We hope you like the new look, feel and convenience of this new system. Feel free to explore the newest update for a more in-depth understanding of the system by taking a peek at the calendar, room booking, and museum passes on kimballlibrary.com even if you aren’t seeking to go anywhere or sign up for anything.

KINDERGARTEN CLUB: This afterschool event is designed to be highly engaging for kindergarten aged children. Just like a typical storytime, we will read a couple of books, but we will also play games that will build on important skills such as listening and vocabulary as well as have an experiment or two.

Children may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the Library if parents make arrangements with pick-up patrol. (The Library is not taking responsibility for the transportation, we are only letting you know that there is a bus that stops here.) Please pack them a snack that they can have before 3:30.

Parents MUST let the Library know of any changes to the drop off/pick up routine OR if their child is not attending the class*.

This unique opportunity is on Fridays at 3:30 starting January 7- February 25 for ages 5 & 6.

GIZMO’S PAWSOME GUIDE TO MENTAL HEALTH: Gizmo’s Pawsome Guide to Mental Health© takes an upstream approach to support the mental health and wellness of youth through Gizmo’s friendly messaging by: Introducing the concept of mental health, sharing how one may care for their own mental health daily, identifying when one’s mental health needs attention and how to use healthy coping strategies, defining trusted adults and how to connect with them, and making a personalized mental health plan that can be used daily

The Guide also includes fun activities and resources trusted adults can use to help the youth in their lives.

This special event is planned for Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 3:30 PM. Registration is required for ages 7-11 and parents must attend with their child. This unique opportunity is presented by SoRock.

SoRock is currently working with the American Society for Suicide Prevention to bring Gizmo's Pawsome Guide to Mental Health, a mental health literacy program for ages 7-10 to our communities.  They are starting with a read along at local libraries. Take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
