Kimball Library News 6/7/11

Summertime and the reading is easy! Mark your calendar for summer reading registration for kids and teens so they can take part in the challenges and joys of reading as well as be eligible to participate in programs and win prizes.

CHILDREN (age 5 through those entering grade 5): ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES is summer reading fun, and registration for the entire program begins on June 23. Enter weekly raffles and win prizes. Travel the world with us as we enjoy the customs, art, stories and great food from faraway places! Come to the library and pick up your packet with all the information and register online. Some events require early registration (**HINT** The ‘Kick-Off’ on the 25th!) so please check the online calendar now as pre-registration before events closes 24 hours before the individual events start.

T/WEENS (those entering grade 6 through age 19): YOU ARE HERE is open to Atkinson youth entering grade 6 through age 19 (as of Fall 2011). Register online starting Tuesday, June 21st, and then you must come into the Kimball Library to activate your account, receive your reading tickets, and get your $5 reading coupon. Use it to pay down your library fines. If you only want to use part of your reading bucks, a staff member will initial the coupon and write down the remaining balance.

For each age-appropriate item you read, turn in your ticket to a staff member with your name, phone number, and title of the item you read. There is no required amount of reading and you can include graphic novels, magazines, novels, audio books, ebooks – any literature counts. You may ask for extra tickets if you run out. The last day to enter tickets for the raffle is July 30th.

If you read an item that is MORE than 200 pages, you may enter 2 coupons for that same book. Remember~ over 200 pages = DOUBLE COUPONS. Participation raffle tickets are for teens that have registered and attend teen programs. All ‘YOU ARE HERE’ events on the calendar are eligible for tickets. The more you read and participate, the better your odds of winning prizes.

When each ticket is completed, drop it off at the main desk to be eligible for random prize drawings held weekly. Prizes may include snacks, books, music CDs, gift cards and more! You need not be present to win. This year’s challenge is ‘Tat the Teen Librarian’. If at least 70 teens register and submit 700 tickets as a whole, the Teen Librarian (Kathy Watson) will get tattooed by teens at the August 2 ‘Henna by Design’ program.
