Kimball Library News 8/26/13

Many of our fall story times and events are starting to fall into place.  Many of our activities require registration.  Please don’t hesitate and miss out on opportunities for you or your child.

This week’s blip is for a particular story hour that will enhance your child’s knowledge of children’s literature and get them comfortable in a literary setting with other young ones.  We offer a class entitled ‘Bitty Books’ for children ages 2-3 with their caregivers.  You are invited to join us for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs and a simple craft.  We offer this each Tuesday from 10:15-11am.  Registration is now open.

It’s back!  When the museum underwent construction we took a year off, but now you may once again sign out a pass for the New England Aquarium. Please thank the Friends of the Kimball Library for the generous donation of this pass!  Take a look below at the details.  -- Each pass admits up to 4 people per visit. The reduced rate is $10 per person for all ages. Children under the age of 3 are not included in the admission count and are always admitted free. (Regular admission rates are $22.95 for age 12+, and 15.95 for ages 3-11. Seniors, age 60+ are $20.95) Passes and payments will be collected at the ticket booth. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Passes may not be used with school group visits scheduled with the Group Sales Office, or be applied toward Aquarium boat programs or IMAX shows. Visitors using wheelchairs and visitors with visual impairments are welcome at the Aquarium free of charge. Guide dogs and service dogs are also welcome.  Please thank the Friends of the Kimball Library for the generous donation of this pass!

Teens and tween gather each month to eat candy and discuss the book of the month.  This is an open meeting and as long as you fit the age criteria you are welcome to join us.  Tweens meet the FIRST Wednesday evening of each month from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss the book selected. All interested mature 5th graders and middle school students are welcome. (Not young adults, not children -- hence, TWEENagers in grades 5-8.) Teen meet the SECOND Wednesday and are in grades 9-12.  Please ask for a copy of the current book at the front desk.  In September, the teens will be discussing ‘The Heist Society’ by Ally Carter on September 11.  In October, the tweens will be discussing ‘Life as We Knew It’ by Susan Beth Pfeffer on October 2.

Join Joan Ryan for ‘Scholarship Matters’ on Saturday, September 21, from 12:30-2pm.  For Joan Catherine Ryan, Scholarship Matters: A Parent’s Guide to College and Private Scholarships is the realization of a dream and the culmination of research that spans over twenty years.  Drawing on her own experiences as well as those of other parents, Joan has created a practical tool for parents feeling “at sea” with the overwhelming process of college admissions. Scholarship Matters demystifies the process and makes the journey so much easier.  This free program is open to the public and sponsored by the Timberlane PTSA.
