LYME PREVENTION AWARENESS: According to the Center
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Lyme disease is the most commonly
reported vectorborne illness in the United States. In 2014, it was the fifth
most common Nationally Notifiable disease.
Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi and is
transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical
symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash
called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the
heart, and the nervous system.
Join us on
Thursday, April 7, from 6-8pm as David Hunter, a long-time Lyme disease
advocate, Co-Chairman of the Bedford Lyme Disease Council and facilitator for
the Greater Manchester Lyme Disease Support Group, talks about Lyme Disease
Awareness and Prevention. He will
discuss causes, prevention, symptoms, testing, co-infections, treatment as well
as the impact that Lyme disease has on children and learning. Lyme disease
cases continue to grow and the disease can now be found nationwide but is most
prevalent in the Northeast, upper Midwest and Northern California.
This evening
of public awareness is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and neighbors to attend
as well.
