AN HOUR OF CODE: The hour of code is a family event coming
to Kimball Library via the Sylvan Center in Salem, NH as part of a movement to
enrich and educate during National Computer Science Week. You'll be virtually joining other students
all over the world. Your school age child will learn some computer programming
through fun and engaging activities.
Join Sylvan and Kimball Library for the movement by registering youth in
kindergarten and up and coming to this 'BYOD Hour of Code' event on Tuesday,
December 6, from 6:15-7:15pm.
There will
be a total of 14 computers available from the library and Sylvan, so if you
have any device or gadget that you can use to connect to our public Wi-Fi, and
you prefer to use it, please bring it.
This will leave those for the less fortunate 'device-less' youth to use.

INTRO TO COMPUTERS: Join us
for an introductory computer class.
These classes are geared to individuals who have little to no computer
experience. The classes will meet 2x (back to back Wednesday afternoons) and
will cover the basics to getting started with computers. Participants do not need
to have a computer at home although access to a computer is helpful. This class is offered in a small group
setting (2 – 5 per class) and participants will be using the library laptop
computers.
Lesson
one on Wednesday, December 7th will introduce the basics such as:
how to use a keyboard and mouse, basic computer concepts such as resizing and
navigating toolbars, windows, and menus and file management (creating and
opening files and folders) as well as learning the basics in Microsoft Word.
Lesson
two, on Wednesday, December 14th will continue learning the basic ins and outs
of Microsoft Word.
*Registration is required. Please indicate
your level of experience: NONE or NEW
(as in new to computers but has basic typing skills). Individuals must have
Kimball Library card to attend this program.
DECEMBER MOVIES @1PM: December
13 showing ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’, December 20 showing ‘loveactually’, and
December 27 showing ‘The BFG’. Popcorn
will be served. Movies start promptly at
1pm.
Children under 10 may not be left unattended.
