Kimball Library News 6/28/21

You’re invited to our garden party where we’re celebrating all things BUGGY!

We’ll all plant wildflower seeds that butterflies and bees love to visit. We’ll create crafts that may just turn you into a bug, build our very own butterfly hotels, and try some buggy games.  Don’t you wish you were a kid again?

This bug fun event is taking place on Monday, July 19th, at 1 PM. Please register grades K-5 in advance.

I ROBOT ROOT CODING: Root is a robot that does incredible things.

Children and teens can code their Root® robot to draw artwork, play music, respond to touch, light, and sound, and more, all while exploring the fundamentals of robotics.

No matter your family’s experience with coding or robotics, the innovative, free iRobot® Coding platform makes coding easy with 3 Learning Levels. Begin with graphical, drag-and-drop code before advancing to hybrid code and finally, full-text code.

This class is hosted by Gail Ramsay (Code & Circuit) and Kathy Watson (Kimball Library) who have brought other coding experiences to the Library including BlueBots and Coding Jam with Osmo. Each class is developmentally designed with the age groupings in mind.

Class size is limited to 8. Please do not register for a class unless your child or teen is 100% committed as to not take a spot away from someone else. Kimball Library card holders have preference. Non-residents will be considered if the classes are not full by July 13th. Classes are on July 20th and are at different times for different age groups.

Register grades K-2 for 3 PM. Register grades 3-5 for 4:30 PM. Register grades 6-12 for 6 PM.

This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.

DOGMAN PARTY: Celebrate the greatest half-man-half-dog detective that ever lived. We’ll learn how to draw the characters from Dav Pilkey’s hit series to make our own comic book stories. (Will your story star DogMan or someone totally new? It’s up to you!) We’ll try to build our very own robot side kicks just like CatKid from materials at the Library. They may not work as well as HD-80 but they will look even cooler. When we have our robots, and our comic books, we’ll meet the star of the show: a real live police dog!

Can you have this much fun at the Library? Register children entering grades K-5  for this pawsome event on July 21st at 6 PM now!

CRAFT, PAINT, AND COLOR MEETUP: Come unwind, de-stress and create every Friday at 10:30.  The group will use the large meeting room so individuals will be able to spread out as they dabble in painting, coloring or creative crafts using oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen and pencil. Individuals bring their own supplies and work on canvas, wood, sketchpads and coloring books.  Group size will be limited and registration is required.  Sorry, we can not accommodate walk-in participants.

Research shows that creative activities help you relax. This is an open time so feel free to stay the entire time, leave early or come late. Remember, this is a no stress event so even if you only have 30 minutes to spare than spend it relaxing with fellow creative art enthusiasts.

*Please bring your own materials.
