Kimball Library News 10/1/23

The Film Enthusiasts Club continues to meet on alternating Tuesdays at 1:00 PM. The word ‘club’ can imply exclusive, but in this case it most definitely is not! All are welcome and encouraged to attend! Coming up –

October 17th – Jules Rated: PG- 13, Runtime: 1 hr. 27 minutes. A man’s quiet life gets upended when a UFO crashes in his backyard in rural Pennsylvania. As he befriends the mysterious extraterrestrial, things start to get complicated when two neighbors discover it and the government quickly closes in.

October 31st – Hocus Pocus Rated: PG, Runtime: 1 hr. 35 minutes. In this Halloween comedy classic, a teenage boy named Max and his little sister move to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.

As always, movies are subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. Please check the website for the most updated information.

ADULT BOOK DISCUSSIONS: Join us for exciting conversations around these upcoming titles.

EVENING: October 17th at 6 PM – Horse by Geraldine Brooks.
Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred Lexington, Horse is a novel of art and science, love and obsession, and our unfinished reckoning with racism.

MORNING: October 25th at 10:15 AM - Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Man Called Ove comes a charming, poignant novel about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.

BITTY BOOKS: Preschool age children with their caregivers are invited to join us for itty bitty stories, rhymes, finger plays or songs and simple crafts. Register for Tuesdays at 10:15 am. This is great way to introduce children to the Library and other children in the area.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE: Are your kids looking for something exciting to do after school on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15? Why not stop at the Library! We'll have several ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ stations set up for the kids to select from. Activities may include building challenges, easy experiments, crafts, and more! Librarians will guide and facilitate choices.

Children may take the bus from Atkinson Academy to the Library if parents make arrangements with pick-up patrol. (The Library is not taking responsibility for the transportation, we are only letting you know that there is a bus that stops here.) Please pack them a snack that they can have before 3:30.

Parents MUST let the Library know of any changes to the drop off/pick up routine OR if their child is not attending the class. Safety first!

Sign your children (grades K-5) up ONCE for the 4-week session. If the session is full, please put your name in the queue for priority in the next session. The next session coming up starts October 25th.

SUPPORT YOUR FRIENDS: The Friends of the Library are selling raffle tickets for a $1,000.00 Money Tree, 4 Red Sox Tickets in a Suite during the 2024 Season (value, $1,000), three Gift Card Baskets, a Zorvino Vineyard Wine Event Basket, a Pamper Yourself Basket and a Cut Your Own Christmas Tree here at the Kimball Library.

Tickets will be drawn on October 17th. You do not need to be present for the drawing and winners will be notified. If you don’t play, you can’t win!

Proceeds from the raffle sales support the Friends of the Kimball Library. Cash or checks only, please.
