Kimball Library News 3/8/24

PAWS TO READ WITH ORLA

Orla will be back for PAWS to Read on Wednesday, March 20th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

For many children, reading can be a daunting task. This can be especially true for shy, quiet kids. Paws to Read offers readers a quiet, calm opportunity to gain reading confidence with a friendly dog. Orla, the Golden Retriever therapy dog and her handler Kate are here to provide a “judgement free” zone for children to practice their reading skills. Whether your child is an emerging or fluent reader doesn’t matter to Orla. She is excited to sit and listen to your child read their favorite books.

Children should bring a simple book they feel comfortable with. We recommend practicing before your appointment to ensure you get the most out of your time. Sign up on the online calendar for the timeslot that works best for you.

THE GENEALOGY WORKSHOP – 6 PM starting Thursday, 3/21/24

This is a meet up group for all those who are currently working on or are ready to begin their genealogy research. Regardless if you are interested in exploring local Atkinson History or wanting to research your family history, we invite you each month. We will meet at the Library and sometimes visit next door with the Atkinson Historic Society. The Genealogy Workshop is a forum to ask questions of the group about genealogy research and to share resources and successes. Members should plan to bring their work or the brick walls they have encountered so we can review and discuss. The Library offers public Wi-Fi access for those who wish to bring their research on their personal devices or access Ancestry Library Edition which is free to use within the building. The Genealogy Workshop is sponsored by the Kimball Library and the Atkinson Historical Society.

The Genealogy Workshop is organized and run by Lucia Cusimano. Lucia Cusimano holds a certificate in genealogical studies from Boston University. She completed the an intensive fourteen-month study of Professional Genealogy, and has attended several genealogical institutes, conferences, and webinars, focusing on traditional and Italian research. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), The New England Chapter (NEAPG), and several local and Italian genealogical groups. Sshe is a Pilot Member of NOKFinders, as a researcher. NOKfinders specializes in finding next of kin for Missing and Unclaimed Person Cases. Lucia is a member of the Atkinson Historical Society, currently in the position of secretary while also assisting with research and family histories.
