Kimball Library News 6/1/10

‘MAKE A SPLASH’ is the 2010 Summer Reading Program for kids in preschool through those entering grade 5. Registration begins on June 17 and continues with the program. Basic details that you need to know are that summer reading programs are free with activities for children of all ages. Register first at the library to receive your packet of material. You may keep track of all books on your computer or a computer at the library. We will give you a password when you register. Got questions? CALL: 362-5234 and ask for Carolyn Birr, Children’s Librarian, or email her at children@kimballlibrary.com

‘MAKE WAVES’ is the 2010 Teen Summer Reading Program. ‘MAKE WAVES’ is open to Atkinson patrons entering grades 6 through age 19 (as of Fall 2010). Register online beginning Thursday, June 17th, and then you need to come into the Kimball Library to receive your reading tickets and a $5 reading coupon. Use it to pay down your outstanding fines. If you only want to use part of your reading bucks, we will initial the coupon and write down the remaining balance.

For each age appropriate item you read, turn in your reading ticket to a staff member with your name, telephone number, and title of the item you read. There is no required amount of reading and you can include graphic novels, magazines, novels, books on CD - it all counts as long as it is literature. If you complete all ten tickets, you can ask for another set of tickets. The last day to enter reading tickets for the raffle is July 30th.

If you read an item that is more than 200 pages, you may enter 2 coupons for that same book. Remember~ over 200 pages = double coupons. Participation raffle tickets are being offered for teens that have registered and stay for any teen programs. All events on the July calendar are eligible for tickets if you attend. For teens who take extra effort to record online as well as turn in tickets, you will be able to win extra prizes. The more you read and the more you participate, the better your odds of winning prizes. Last year over 30 teens won at least once.

When each ticket is completed, drop it off at the circulation desk to be eligible for random prize drawings held weekly. Prizes may include snacks, books, gift cards and more! You need not be present to win.

If at least 60 teens register and submit 600 tickets as a whole, the Teen Librarian (Kathy Watson) will highlight her ENTIRE HEAD ‘POOL BLUE.’ Get motivated and encourage your friends to register and read for MAKE WAVES. Got questions? CALL: 362-5234 and ask for Kathy Watson, Teen Librarian, or email her at youngadult@kimballlibrary.com
