Kimball Library News 11/6/12

Remember your commitment!  For those who are taking advantage of the ‘Universal Class’ link on our website, please know that this particular service will be discontinued by the end of this calendar year.  This should serve as a great impetus to get back to class and finish up so you can earn your certificate of completion. Ready, set, go!

Remember Gwendolyn!  Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon for the budding dancers and story lovers in your family on Tuesday, November 27th at 4:30 PM when ballerinas from The European School of Dancing take center stage at the Kimball Library, Atkinson, NH. Author David Ira Rottenberg will read his lovely picture book, Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig, while the dancers perform the story. As an added treat, a mini-movement lesson will be offered to the children in the audience after the performance and Rottenberg will sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase.  This author/dance event is free.   All ages can relate to overcoming obstacles and pursuing what you love.  Bring your cameras for great photo opportunities with the ballerinas or the author.

Remember Hawke!  Lady Hawke, a loveable black Lab, is a certified reading therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International.  She is gentle with children of all ages and her next visit is Tuesday, November 20th, from 4-5pm. We need YOU (emerging readers or any readers) to come and read to Lady Hawke!  She’s waiting to hear some great stories, and only you can help!  Please come, bring your favorite book, or borrow one of ours, and spend some time reading to our friend, Hawke.  Please register for this event.  If no one registers she will not come.

Remember your tummy!  Are you feeling a little peckish?  Just sit back and relax because kids are cooking on Monday, November 19th, from 4:30-5:30pm.  Register your children in grades 3 to 5.  Kids are invited to learn some new habits for the kitchen and to have fun cooking together.  This month on the menu is Chinese fried rice so perhaps it is time to practice with the chopsticks! The fun is in the making and in the eating.  Enrollment is limited so do not delay your registration.

Remember that December is right around the corner!  We are kicking off the holidays with the ever-popular and crafty Felicia Motherway.  On Tuesday, December 4, from 6-8pm it is your night to learn how to make a beautiful fresh boxwood tree to enjoy for the holidays. The boxwood tree is an elegant design made out of boxwood and decorated with velvet ribbon, gold glass balls, berries and natural gypsophila. This popular centerpiece will last for months and is perfect for your home or for those who want a small holiday tree to enjoy. This also is a great gift idea. Even the ‘craft-impaired’ will leave with a tree that looks like it was featured in Better Homes & Gardens.  Felicia does not let anyone leave without a perfect looking tree.  Reservations are required as the class is limited to 20 people.  Materials fee of $30.00 must be paid in advance in order for your registration to be secure.  Please sign up at the circulation desk.  Phone registrations will not be accepted.

Remember that we will be closed for Thanksgiving and the following day (November 22-23).  We will be open on Saturday, November 24.   Please stock up and plan accordingly.
