The tweens and teens in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in a SWEET Contest on Tuesday, February 26th
from 6:30-7:45pm. The ‘SWEET Contest’ rules are fairly
simple. You can make anything sweet (candy, cookies, cake,
smoothies, etc). The creation has to be primarily made in the
library and you can use the library microwave in the making of your
creation if necessary. If you need to do a small
amount prep at home that is acceptable, but note that the more that is
done in front of the judges the better. You may bring your own
blender or other tools you may need. (Translation: Have everything you
need because it is unlikely we will.) You
have thirty minutes to create your entry so practicing at home first as to how
long it will take you is always the best idea. You must work alone
without parental help or a partner. How much is done here and your
creativity count a lot! Use a theme and build off of that to pump
up your presentation score.
The judges will use presentation, creativity, and tastiness as their criteria and rate each category on a scale of 1-5. At the end, the highest score wins a prize. If there are at least 10 entries there will be a runner-up prize. The judges will not allow a tie. After the judging is over, you’ll be able to sample your competitor's creations while they sample yours. Please make enough for at least a dozen samples. Registration is required. Invite your friends to compete-they do not have to be residents, but they need to register just like you do. Let’s see who is the king or queen of sweets!
Grades 2 and up are invited to try their hands at ‘Creative
Candle Making’ that will be taking place on Wednesday,
February 27th, from 3-4:30pm.
Our guest, Carolyn Nenart, from the Wenham Museum will be giving a
candle making demonstration and tutorial for registered children. Participants will learn to make dipping
candles and ice candles. Join in the fun with Miss Celeste and
share in the art of candle making.
Register before the class is closed.
Seating is limited.
Everybody
loves animals, and this is why Michelle’s Menagerie is coming to Kimball
Library on Wednesday, February 27th from 6:30-7:30pm. If
you really want to learn about mammals, this is the event for you.
Mammals are fascinating animals that are covered with fur or
hair. You will learn about the many different types of fur.
This show contains seven mammals and one surprise guest that will not be
fluffy, furry, or covered with quills! The seven mammals that will be
here are the chinchilla, ferret, cavy, hedgehog, rabbit, domestic descented skunk, tenrec, and a surprise guest!
Register CHILDREN (we know they will be
accompanied by adults). This event is developmentally geared for children
in grades K-6. Preschoolers are welcome if they sit with their
parents. We have a limit of 50 children.
Michelle's Menagerie combines entertainment and education to
create an exciting learning experience that will long be remembered! All
programs provide an opportunity to learn about animals and their importance in
the world. This is not a petting zoo; it is an awesome wildlife encounter. Visit
www.michellesmenagerie.com to sneak an
advance peek at the furry critters and information on her education live animal
shows.
We had a fabulous turn-out
and fun at our 3rd Annual Jack Frost Jamboree. We’d like to give a special shout-out to
Eastern Mountain Sports in Salem, NH for bringing a wide array of snowshoes for
folks to try and giving out some amazing raffle prizes. Our only request for next year is more snow!
Please be aware that will be closed on February
18th for Presidents’ Day. Stock up in
advance and enjoy extra time on those 2 day loans the Friday before the
closing.
